Braves 4, Angels 3:
Evan Gattis belted a three-run homer as host Atlanta held off Los Angeles in the opener of a three-game interleague series.

Chris Johnson swatted a solo homer among his two hits and Andrelton Simmons chipped in two hits to help the Braves move into a tie with Washington atop the National League East. Aaron Harang (5-5) halted a five-start winless drought, giving up one run on four hits over six innings, and Craig Kimbrel worked a perfect ninth for his 19th save.

Albert Pujols drove in two runs while Kole Calhoun had two hits and scored once for the Angels, who dropped their second straight following a five-game winning streak. C.J. Wilson (7-6) was tagged for four runs on six hits in six innings to fall to 6-1 in his last 12 starts against NL opponents.

Wilson dug himself an early hole in the first with a hit batsman and a walk before Gattis crushed a three-run shot over the wall in left-center and Johnson followed with a solo shot for a 4-0 lead. Harang gave a run back in the third, allowing a leadoff double to Hank Conger before uncorking two wild pitches to bring him home.

An error by Braves center fielder B.J. Upton on Calhoun's fly ball helped Los Angeles pull within a run in the eighth. Mike Trout followed with a double before Pujols plated both runners with a single off Shae Simmons.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Gattis' 14th homer, the most among major-league catchers, extended his hitting streak to 13 games and his string of reaching base to 17 games. ... Pujols extended his hitting streak to five games while halting a five-game RBI drought. ... Braves RF Jason Heyward suffered a contusion on the right hand when he was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the first and was pinch-hit for by Jordan Schafer in the second. X-rays were negative and he's listed as day-to-day.
