Pirates 5, Reds 4
: Clint Barmes and Michael McKenry opened the 10th inning with back-to-back doubles as visiting Pittsburgh captured its fourth consecutive series.

After Ryan Ludwick forged a 4-4 tie by leading off the bottom of the ninth with his second home run of the night, Reds left-hander Aroldis Chapman (4-1) started the 10th and was greeted by a ground-rule double by Barmes. McKenry, who lifted a sacrifice fly in the seventh, followed with a double to right field that plated Barmes and gave Chapman his first earned run allowed in 25 appearances this season.

McKenry and Garrett Jones had two RBIs apiece while Alex Presley recorded two hits and scored twice for the Pirates, who have won nine of their last 12 games.

Pirates closer Joel Hanrahan (3-0) notched the win despite suffering his second blown save in 17 opportunities. Chris Resop worked around a leadoff double in the bottom of the 10th for his second career save.

Jay Bruce homered and drove in two runs while Joey Votto went 3-for-5 for the Reds, who lost for just the sixth time in 18 contests. Votto's double in the first inning extended his hitting streak to 13 games.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Pirates 3B Pedro Alvarez was back in the lineup after being given four days off due to his recent slump. Alvarez, who had not started since Saturday, went 0-for-18 before delivering a single as a pinch hitter on Wednesday. He finished Thursday 1-for-4. ... Cincinnati 3B Scott Rolen, who has been sidelined since May 12 with a strained left shoulder, took batting practice and fielded grounders for the second straight day. "I felt good and I'm ready to go out and do it again and progress this way," he said. Rolen still is out indefinitely. ... The Reds are one of four teams to use only five starting pitchers thus far this season.
