Giants 4, Mets 3 (10 innings): Rookie catcher Hector Sanchez came through with an RBI single in the top of the 10th, and the San Francisco bullpen was able to preserve a one-run lead the second time around to take the opener of a three-game series at Citi Field.

In the ninth, the Giants were reminded how much they miss closer Brian Wilson, whose season ended when he went on the disabled list and had Tommy John surgery Thursday. The bullpen was unable to hold a one-run lead in the ninth, as Santiago Casilla allowed a leadoff single to Jason Bay and Lopez came on to walk Kirk Nieuwenhuis and give up Josh Thole's tying single.

Sergio Romo (1-0) came on to get out of the jam and force extra innings, but allowed the first two runners to reach in the 10th. Clay Hensley took over and recorded three straight outs for his first save.

Former Mets outfielder Angel Pagan hit a home run in a three-run third inning. Pagan's blast to right-center started a three-run outburst against Mets starter Jon Niese. Buster Posey added an RBI double and Pablo Sandoval scored on a wild pitch later in the inning.

The Mets' first two runs came on solo homers by Jason Bay and Kirk Nieuwenhuis.

The Giants have won three straight, all against National League East opponents. New York has lost four of five.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Mets 3B David Wright went 1-for-3 and remains tied with Darryl Strawberry for the franchise's all-time RBI lead with 733. … Giants starter Barry Zito continued his strong start to the season with five solid innings, allowing two runs on four hits. … The Giants have allowed 10 runs in their seven wins (1.43 per game) and 43 runs in their six losses (7.17 per game).
