Marco Scutaro and David Ortiz combined for eight of Boston’s 20 hits and Jon Lester struck out 11 in seven shutout innings to lead the Red Sox over the Blue Jays 14-0 at Toronto on Tuesday night.

Boston won for only the second time in the last six games. After getting shut out for 11 innings in a 1-0 loss on Monday, Boston put this game away early with four runs in the first inning and led 11-0 after four innings.

Scutaro had three doubles and four RBIs and Ortiz finished with a pair of doubles and drove in two. Jarrod Saltalamacchia and Josh Reddick homered for Boston.

Lester (15-6) won his fourth straight decision. He allowed just three hits, all singles, and a walk.

Luis Perez (3-3) took the loss allowing eight runs on 10 hits in 2 2/3 innings.

Dustin McGowan threw four innings of relief for the Blue Jays in his first taste of major-league action since July 8, 2008. McGowan, who missed most of the last three years with major arm and shoulder injuries, allowed three runs on five hits while striking out five.

The Red Sox remained 2 1/2 games behind the Yankees in the American League East, but lead the Rays by eight games in the AL wild card standings.
