Seattle scored three runs in the eighth inning to spoil Zach Greinke’s bid for his first win as the Mariners posted a 3-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday.

Greinke exited after throwing seven scoreless innings, only to see the bullpen blow his lead for the third time this season.

Josh Rupe (0-1), Robinson Tejeda and Bruce Chen surrendered hits in the eighth as the Mariners rallied back.

Franklin Gutierrez singled to left to score Ichiro Suzuki, Jose Lopez doubled home Chone Figgins and Milton Bradley drew a bases-loaded walk to account for the 3-2 advantage.

Reliever Shawn Kelley (1-0) worked 1 2/3 innings for the win. David Aardsma recorded his seventh save by working the ninth.

The Royals opened up a 2-0 lead on Mitch Maier’s triple in the fourth and Alberto Callaspo’s RBI triple in the fifth.
