Miguel Cabrera smacked his 36th home run of the season and Casper Wells and Jhonny Peralta also went deep as the Detroit Tigers walloped the visiting Minnesota Twins 10-1 Friday night.

The trio combined to finish with seven hits, seven runs scored and nine RBIs to lead the Tigers to victory. Cabrera bolstered his American League MVP chances with a two-run shot in the fourth inning, while Peralta added a three-run bomb in the seventh and Wells followed with a solo shot.

That was more than enough offense for Justin Verlander (18-8), who went the distance on a five-hitter for his sixth complete game of the season. Verlander struck out 11 and didn't walk a batter on the way to one of his most dominant performances of the season.

Twins starter Francisco Liriano (14-9) wasn't as fortunate, charged with two runs on four hits over three innings before leaving due to illness. He walked one and struck out four.

Denard Span led the Twins' meager attack with two hits and a run scored, while Michael Cuddyer's RBI single in the ninth provided the lone Minnesota offense.
