Alex Verdugo homered and also hit a two-run single to highlight a six-run fifth inning as the Boston Red Sox completed a sweep of a doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins with a 7-1 on Wednesday afternoon in Minneapolis.

Eduardo Rodriguez allowed one run over five innings to help the Red Sox earn their ninth consecutive win. The streak is the longest for Boston since a 10-gamer from July 2-12, 2018.

Rafael Devers went 2-for-4 and drove in two runs and Verdugo finished with three hits for Boston, which has scored 67 runs over the past nine games.

Rodriguez (2-0) gave up five hits, walked one and struck out five to improve 4-1 in seven career starts against Minnesota.

The Twins' Jorge Polanco had a double and two hits, and Josh Donaldson, activated off the injured list between games, singled, walked and scored a run. Minnesota lost its fifth consecutive game, all at home.

Jose Berrios (2-1), who allowed just two singles and faced one batter over the minimum over the first four innings, wound up yielding four runs on four hits and three walks over 4 1/3 innings. He struck out five.

Minnesota took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Donaldson singled, advanced to third on a single by Nelson Cruz and scored on a sacrifice fly by Kyle Garlick.

Boston sent 11 men to the plate in the fifth while taking a 6-1 lead. Devers led off with a double to center, Christian Vazquez walked and one out later Bobby Dalbec singled to load the bases. Berrios then walked Frenchy Cordero on four pitches to force in Devers, tie the score and end his evening.

With Tyler Duffey pitching and one out later, Verdugo singled in two runs to put the Red Sox ahead to stay.

Cordero scored on a wild pitch to make it 4-1. Duffey then walked J.D. Martinez and Xander Bogaerts to load the bases again. Devers then delivered a two-run single off reliever Caleb Thielbar.

Verdugo smashed his second homer of the season in the seventh to finish the scoring.
