Corbin Burnes pitched six scoreless innings and Billy McKinney hit a solo homer and saved two runs with a diving catch in left field Tuesday night as the visiting Milwaukee Brewers defeated the San Diego Padres 6-0.

Burnes (2-1) gave up four hits and no walks, although he hit a batter. He struck out 10 Padres and now has 40 strikeouts on the season without issuing a walk. The four hits matched the total he had allowed in his first four starts.

The right-hander finished the night with a 0.37 ERA, a 0.329 WHIP and a 0.98 opponents' batting average in addition to moving into the National League lead in strikeouts.

Meanwhile, McKinney triggered a five-run third inning against Padres starter Chris Paddack (1-2), leading off the inning with his second homer of the season and his second in as many nights -- a 410-foot shot to right-center.

The key play of the inning was a one-out fielding error by substitute second baseman Jurickson Profar on a one-out grounder by Burnes. Paddack got the second out on a roller up the first base line, then gave up three hits and a walk before getting the third out.

Daniel Vogelbach singled and Avisail Garcia drew a walk to load the bases. Travis Shaw then lined a two-run double into the right field corner, and Omar Narvaez followed with a two-run single to left.

Paddack worked five innings, allowing the five runs on five hits and a walk with seven strikeouts. The only earned run charged to Paddack was McKinney's home run.

Former Padres prospect Jace Peterson homered for the Brewers' final run in the ninth off Craig Stammen. It was the Brewers' fifth solo homer in two straight wins over the Padres.

The Padres had runners at the corners with two outs in the fourth when Wil Myers hit a line drive that was hooking toward the left field corner. McKinney made a diving catch toward the foul line for the final out of the inning. The Padres loaded the bases with one out in the fifth before Burnes struck out former Brewer Trent Grisham and retired Profar on a grounder to second.

Former Padres Eric Yardley and Brad Boxberger worked the seventh and eighth, respectively, for the Brewers before Drew Rasmussen closed out the six-hit shutout.
