Preview Roundups
October 31, 2015
NY Islanders at New Jersey 1:00 PM ET
The surprising New Jersey Devils vie for their sixth win in seven outings when they begin a pronounced home stretch on Saturday afternoon against the Metropolitan Division-rival New York Islanders. Travis Zajac scored twice on the power play in New Jersey's 4-1 triumph over Philadelphia on Thursday to increase his total to four goals and three assists in his last five games.
San Jose at Dallas 3:00 PM ET
Goaltender Antti Niemi could get a chance to face the team that jettisoned him in the offseason when the Dallas Stars host the San Jose Sharks on Saturday afternoon. Niemi, who had a career-high 23 regulation losses in his fifth and final season with San Jose, was sent packing to the Stars in June in exchange for a seventh-round draft pick.
Nashville at Los Angeles 4:00 PM ET
A rocky start to the season seems like a distant memory for the Los Angeles Kings, who take aim at their seventh consecutive victory when they host the Nashville Predators on Saturday afternoon. After dropping three straight at home while getting outscored 12-2 to kick off the season, Los Angeles has surrendered a total of six-goals during its six-game tear.
Pittsburgh at Toronto 7:00 PM ET
Phil Kessel pays his first visit to Toronto since being traded and the Pittsburgh Penguins look to extend their winning streak to four games when they begin a four-game Canadian road trip against the foundering Maple Leafs on Saturday. Kessel, who was dealt to Pittsburgh on July 1 after eight seasons in Toronto, has recorded six points — four goals — in his first 10 games with the Penguins.
Detroit at Ottawa 7:00 PM ET
The Ottawa Senators attempt to complete a sweep of a home-and-home series with the Detroit Red Wings when they host their Atlantic Division rivals on Saturday. Ottawa took the opener in Detroit on Friday, skating to a 3-1 victory as Bobby Ryan recorded a goal and an assist.
Boston at Tampa Bay 7:00 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning hope to end their baffling offensive drought Saturday as they host the Boston Bruins, who top the league in goals per game. The Lightning led the NHL in scoring a season ago but have recorded one goal during an 0-2-1 slump after a solid start, while their most productive forward line from 2014-15 has yet to find its form.
Washington at Florida 7:00 PM ET
The Washington Capitals look to remain unbeaten on the road this season and continue their recent domination in the all-time series when they visit the Florida Panthers on Saturday. The Capitals, who have earned at least a point in 13 consecutive games (11-0-2) against the Panthers, edged Columbus 2-1 on Friday for their sixth victory in seven games overall.
Winnipeg at Columbus 7:00 PM ET
Ryan Johansen returned to the Columbus Blue Jackets’ lineup Friday at Washington after missing his team’s first two victories of the season with an illness, and there may be some discord between the All-Star and new head coach John Tortorella. The Blue Jackets host the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday one night after Johansen, who did not play the final six minutes of Tortorella’s debut before being sent home for tests, logged 17 minutes in Friday’s 2-1 loss at Washington.
Minnesota at St. Louis 8:00 PM ET
After eliminating St. Louis in the first round of the playoffs, the Minnesota Wild look to continue their run of good fortune against the Blues on Saturday when the Central Division rivals meet at Scottrade Center. Zach Parise tallied twice to close out the playoff series in the spring and also scored in Minnesota's 3-2 victory over St. Louis on Oct. 10 to give him eight goals and five assists in the last 14 meetings.
Calgary at Edmonton 10:00 PM ET
The Calgary Flames look to snap out of their doldrums Saturday when they visit the Edmonton Oilers for the second installment of this season's Battle of Alberta. Calgary's losing streak reached four games (0-3-1) Friday with a 6-2 home loss to the Montreal Canadiens.
