Preview Roundups
October 30, 2014
Boston at Buffalo 7:00 PM ET
The Boston Bruins will be without another key cog on the blue line when they visit the Atlantic Division-rival Buffalo Sabres on Thursday. With captain Zdeno Chara already out four to six weeks with a knee injury, fellow defenseman Torey Krug will be sidelined two to three weeks after suffering a broken finger during Tuesday's 4-3 loss to Minnesota. Ironically, both blue-liners scored in Boston's 4-0 triumph over Buffalo in the teams' first meeting on Oct. 18.
Winnipeg at New Jersey 7:00 PM ET
The New Jersey Devils take another shot at registering their first home victory of the season when they host the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday. New Jersey has played only three games at Prudential Center thus far but was unable to get in the win column, going 0-1-2 with an overtime setback against the New York Rangers and a shootout loss to Dallas. The Devils had been playing well on the road until Tuesday, when they allowed seven unanswered goals en route to an 8-3 defeat in Pittsburgh.
Los Angeles at Pittsburgh 7:00 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings are in search of their first victory away from home, but they'll face a difficult task when they visit the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night in the second contest of a five-game road trip. The Kings have played only twice on the road and have dropped a pair of 3-2 decisions in overtime, including Tuesday's loss at Philadelphia that snapped a six-game winning streak. The teams split of pair of decisions last season, with the away club prevailing both times.
Chicago at Ottawa 7:30 PM ET
The Chicago Blackhawks are mired in a bit of an offensive funk as they prepare to visit the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night in the second matchup between the teams in five days. The Blackhawks eked out a 2-1 victory over the Senators in Chicago on Sunday - their only victory in a four-game stretch during which the club has managed just six goals. The game could also mark the return of starting goaltender Corey Crawford, who has sat out the past five contests due to an upper-body injury.
Philadelphia at Tampa Bay 7:30 PM ET
After finishing third in the Calder Trophy voting last season, Tampa Bay Lightning center Tyler Johnson continues to produce with a team-high 12 points in the first 10 games. Johnson looks to extend his career-best points and assists streaks to eight games as the Lightning host the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday. The Flyers have won three straight and are 4-1-2 since losing their first two contests, including Ray Emery’s 38-save effort in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime victory versus Los Angeles.
Arizona at Florida 7:30 PM ET
The Florida Panthers look to exact revenge from the visiting Arizona Coyotes when the clubs meet for the second time in six days on Thursday. The Panthers dropped a 2-1 decision to the Coyotes on Saturday as defenseman Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored a power-play goal 2:20 into overtime. Despite the setback, Florida first-year coach Gerard Gallant was pleased with the team's effort during its 2-0-2 road trip.
Anaheim at St. Louis 8:00 PM ET
The Anaheim Ducks look to resurrect their offense as they continue their four-game road trip against the St. Louis Blues on Thursday. Anaheim began its trek Tuesday with a 1-0 triumph at Chicago as Devante Smith-Pelly scored a short-handed goal with 8:28 remaining in the third period and John Gibson turned aside 38 shots en route to his second career shutout.
San Jose at Minnesota 8:00 PM ET
After letting a third-period lead go by the boards on Monday, the Minnesota Wild staged an impressive rally in the final session of regulation the following night to record their third win in four games. The Wild look to continue their good fortune when they open a three-game homestand against the San Jose Sharks on Thursday.
NY Islanders at Colorado 9:00 PM ET
The New York Islanders are off to a fast start with six wins in nine contests, but begin a brutal portion of the schedule when they kick off a five-game road trip at the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday. The Islanders play seven of their next eight away from home, including five straight against Western Conference opponents. "These are elite teams, teams that you guys have picked to probably get to the Stanley Cup final," New York coach Jack Capuano said.
Montreal at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
The Vancouver Canucks attempt to complete a sweep of their three-game homestand when they host the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday. Vancouver played well defensively in the first two contests of the stretch at Rogers Arena, following a 4-2 victory over Washington with a 4-1 triumph over Carolina on Tuesday. Brad Richardson scored his first two goals of the season against the Hurricanes and Ryan Miller made 29 saves en route to his 300th career win.
