Preview Roundups
October 29, 2016
Florida at Buffalo 1:00 PM ET
The Buffalo Sabres hope to become a factor in the playoff race this season and that quest must include a better record on home ice. The Sabres have not had a winning record at home in a season since 2012-13 and dropped their first two contests at the KeyBank Center in 2016-17 going into Saturday’s Atlantic Division clash with the visiting Florida Panthers.
Toronto at Montreal 7:00 PM ET
The Montreal Canadiens are the only team that has yet to lose in regulation, but they still cannot match last season's record-setting starts. Montreal, which kicked off the 2015-16 campaign with a nine-game winning streak, goes for its seventh consecutive victory when it hosts the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday.
Boston at Detroit 7:00 PM ET
A pair of Original Six teams streaking in opposite directions will resume their rivalry when the red-hot Detroit Red Wings host the Boston Bruins on Saturday. After opening the season in ominous fashion by allowing 10 goals in a pair of road losses, the Red Wings abruptly have turned things around by ripping off six consecutive victories.
Tampa Bay at New Jersey 7:00 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning may be without one of their key offensive weapons as they attempt to avoid back-to-back losses for the first time this season when they visit the New Jersey Devils on Saturday. Nikita Kucherov, who led the Lightning in scoring last season, suffered an upper-body injury in Tuesday’s 3-1 loss at Montreal and is considered day-to-day.
Pittsburgh at Philadelphia 7:00 PM ET
The Philadelphia Flyers have been plagued by both slow starts to the season in recent years and equally sputtering beginnings to games in this campaign. Outscored 8-1 in the first period this season, the host Flyers look to avoid a sixth loss in nine outings by getting an early jump on the Keystone State-rival Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.
Los Angeles at St. Louis 8:00 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings have gone the extra mile to win a franchise-best four in a row past regulation while the St. Louis Blues have seen their sputtering offense held to just one goal in four of the last five contests (1-2-2). The Blues look to get it in gear on Saturday when they conclude their three-game homestand against the reinvigorated Kings.
Dallas at Minnesota 8:00 PM ET
The Minnesota Wild are receiving contributions throughout their lineup and go after a third consecutive shutout when the injury-plagued Dallas Stars pay a visit on Saturday night. Goalie Devan Dubnyk blanked Boston and Buffalo to end a four-game road trip and the Wild boast 28 goals from 16 different players to earn first place in the Central Division.
Colorado at Arizona 9:00 PM ET
The Arizona Coyotes salvaged the finale of their six-game road trip and hope to build off the victory when they begin a three-game homestand Saturday against the Colorado Avalanche. Arizona opened the season with an overtime win over Philadelphia at home but dropped the first five contests of its trek before again topping the Flyers 5-4 on Thursday.
Washington at Vancouver 10:00 PM ET
The Vancouver Canucks attempt to salvage the finale — and score their first goal — of their three-game homestand when they host the Washington Capitals on Saturday. After beginning the season with four consecutive victories, Vancouver has been streaking in the opposite direction, going 0-3-1 over its last four contests while getting shut out in each of the first two games of its homestand.
Nashville at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
The San Jose Sharks identified themselves as road warriors last season with a franchise-best 28 wins while their record at home (18-20-3) left plenty to be desired. The Sharks have seen the tables turn on both fronts this season and look to remain perfect at SAP Center on Saturday as they conclude a three-game homestand against the Nashville Predators.
