Preview Roundups
October 22, 2014
Toronto at Ottawa 7:00 PM ET
The Ottawa Senators are off to their best five-game start since 2007-08 and look to gain more confidence when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday. The Senators started last season 1-2-2 before missing the playoffs, and right wing Bobby Ryan told the Ottawa Sun, “This group has got a much more pedal-to-the-floor attitude, and it has gotten us those wins early.” Ottawa has won four straight while Toronto is coming off a 5-2 victory at the New York Islanders on Tuesday.
Philadelphia at Pittsburgh 8:00 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Penguins attempt to cap a three-game homestand with a winning mark when they face the Keystone State-rival Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday. The Penguins suffered their lone loss of the young season with a last-second setback to Dallas on Thursday before rebounding with a 3-1 triumph over the New York Islanders two nights later. Pittsburgh's potent power play continued to pay dividends with two goals versus the Islanders to improve to 8-for-17 in four games this season.
Washington at Edmonton 9:30 PM ET
The Washington Capitals look to continue their strong start to the season when they open a three-game road trip against the Edmonton Oilers on Wednesday. Captain Alex Ovechkin resides five points behind Peter Bondra (825) on Washington's all-time list, although a shootout tally was all he mustered in his team's 2-1 victory over Florida on Saturday. Ovechkin has scored five goals and set up another this season, and has seven tallies and five assists in 12 career meetings with Edmonton.
Buffalo at Anaheim 10:30 PM ET
The Anaheim Ducks look to extend their winning streak to six games as they continue their homestand against the offensively challenged Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday. Anaheim has yet to lose since falling in Pittsburgh on Oct. 9, winning the final three contests of its season-opening road trip before beginning the stretch of five straight home games with a pair of victories. The Ducks kicked off the string with a 2-1 triumph over Minnesota on Friday and blanked St. Louis 3-0 two nights later.
