Preview Roundups
October 17, 2014
Florida at Buffalo 7:00 PM ET
After scoring just three goals in as many games and having just one point to show for it, the Florida Panthers vie for their elusive first win of the season when they open a four-game road trip at the Buffalo Sabres on Friday. Florida dropped a 3-1 decision to Buffalo on Oct. 25, 2013 before reeling off three straight victories versus its Atlantic Division rival.
Calgary at Columbus 7:00 PM ET
The Calgary Flames and Columbus Blue Jackets tend to play tight games - and Friday night should be no exception as the teams do battle at Nationwide Arena. The Flames are coming off a stunning 2-1 overtime win over the host Chicago Blackhawks in a game in which Calgary was outshot by a ridiculous 50-18 margin. The Blue Jackets are hoping to bounce back after dropping a 4-2 decision to the Dallas Stars on Tuesday, their first loss of the season.
Detroit at Toronto 7:30 PM ET
Gustav Nyquist hasn't let coach Mike Babcock's line-shuffling affect his scoring ways. After finding the net in each of the team's first three contests, Nyquist looks to keep his hot hand going when the visiting Detroit Red Wings open a home-and-home series with the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday. The 25-year-old Swede didn't let a bump to the third line get him down on Wednesday, as he scored a power-play goal in Detroit's 3-2 shootout loss to Boston.
Nashville at Winnipeg 8:00 PM ET
After a less-than-stellar season-opening road trip, the Winnipeg Jets begin a five-game homestand Friday as they take on the Nashville Predators in their opener at MTS Centre. Winnipeg kicked off the trek in strong fashion, posting a 6-2 victory at Arizona, but its offense disappeared in losses at San Jose and Los Angeles. The Jets totaled one goal in the defeats, with that tally coming in Sunday's 4-1 setback against the reigning Stanley Cup-champion Kings.
Vancouver at Edmonton 9:30 PM ET
The Edmonton Oilers hope returning to familiar surroundings translates into a much-needed victory. Edmonton remains in search of its first win of the season as it begins a seven-game homestand Friday against the Vancouver Canucks. The Oilers, who began the campaign with a home loss to Calgary, went 0-2-1 on their recently completed road trip and were outscored 13-5 over the final two contests.
Minnesota at Anaheim 10:00 PM ET
The Anaheim Ducks are set to become one of the last teams to play a home opener this season - and they'll have their hands full Friday night as they take on a Minnesota Wild team that has yet to allow a goal in 2014-15. Minnesota opened its campaign in style, blanking the Colorado Avalanche in both ends of a home-and-home series. The Ducks return to Orange County fresh off a 3-1-0 East Coast trek that ended with a 4-3 shootout win over Philadelphia.
