October 14, 2014
NY Islanders at NY Rangers 7:00 PM ET
The New York Islanders look to ride the momentum of a season-opening sweep of a home-and-home series when it faces the rival Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday. Brock Nelson followed his two-goal, two-assist performance in the team's 5-3 victory over Carolina on Friday with one of each to lift the Islanders to a 4-3 triumph over the Hurricanes the following night.
Anaheim at Philadelphia 7:00 PM ET
Bouncing back from squandering a three-goal third-period lead is difficult enough; doing it against one of the top teams in the Western Conference is another matter altogether. The Philadelphia Flyers face a monumental task Tuesday as they look for their first victory of the season against the visiting Anaheim Ducks. Philadelphia led 3-0 after two periods against Montreal on Saturday, only to give up three third-period goals and lose in a shootout.
San Jose at Washington 7:00 PM ET
The San Jose Sharks look every bit the Stanley Cup contenders they plan to be through the first week of the season, though it’s only a two-game sample. The Sharks will attempt to keep their positive momentum going when they cross the country to visit the Washington Capitals on Tuesday. San Jose has yet to allow a goal and is being led offensively by alternate captain Patrick Marleau, who has two goals and two assists.
Dallas at Columbus 7:00 PM ET
The Columbus Blue Jackets look to remain perfect on the young season when they host the Dallas Stars on Tuesday. Columbus attempts to win its third straight to start a campaign for the first time in franchise history after posting a 3-1 triumph at Buffalo in its opener and a 5-2 victory at home against the New York Rangers on Saturday.
Buffalo at Carolina 7:30 PM ET
The number of winless teams in the National Hockey League will be reduced Tuesday as the Buffalo Sabres visit the Carolina Hurricanes for a matchup between clubs in search of their first victory. Buffalo suffered its third straight loss to start the season Monday, dropping a 5-1 decision to Anaheim at home. Tyler Ennis scored the lone goal for the Sabres, who have been outshot 131-57 overall and 44-12 by the Ducks.
Colorado at Toronto 7:30 PM ET
After suffering a pair of disheartening losses, both the Colorado Avalanche and Toronto Maple Leafs found reason to smile by recording an awe-inspiring victory. The positive vibes will continue for one club as the Avalanche vie for their fifth consecutive win in Toronto when the teams meet on Tuesday.
New Jersey at Tampa Bay 7:30 PM ET
The New Jersey Devils began the post-Martin Brodeur era with an offensive onslaught, matching the team record for the season’s first two games with 11 goals. The Devils boast two road victories to start a campaign for the first time in club history and look to extend that when they visit the Tampa Bay Lightning on Tuesday. New Jersey must put together a staunch defensive effort against the Lightning, who beat Montreal 7-1 on Monday and have six power-play goals in three games.
Calgary at Nashville 8:00 PM ET
The Nashville Predators attempt to wrap up their season-opening homestand with a perfect record as they host the Calgary Flames on Tuesday. Nashville began the campaign with a 3-2 victory over Ottawa before posting a 4-1 triumph over Dallas on Saturday. Eric Nystrom recorded a goal and two assists while Paul Gaustad and captain Shea Weber both notched one of each as the Predators netted four unanswered tallies after falling behind.
Edmonton at Los Angeles 10:30 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings continue their six-game homestand Tuesday, when they face off against the Pacific Division-rival Edmonton Oilers. Los Angeles steadily worked its way to its first victory of the campaign, following a season-opening shutout loss with an overtime defeat before beginning the homestand with a 4-1 triumph over Winnipeg on Sunday.
