Preview Roundups
April 18, 2014
Montreal at Tampa Bay 7:00 PM ET
The lights appeared a bit too bright for the youthful Tampa Bay Lightning in their playoff opener, but they look to rebound when they host the Montreal Canadiens in Friday's Game 2 of the Eastern Conference first-round series. The Lightning were badly outplayed, generating few shots and giving up too many solid scoring chances, but still managed to push the game into overtime before losing 5-4.
Detroit at Boston 7:30 PM ET
A dominant second half of the season carried the Boston Bruins to the best record in the NHL, but recent history suggests they have plenty of reason to be wary of their first-round playoff opponent when they host the Detroit Red Wings in Game 1 on Friday night. The Bruins stamped themselves as a Stanley Cup favorite with a dazzling 15-0-1 stretch that finally came to an end in Detroit on April 2. In fact, Boston lost three of four matchups this season to the eighth-seeded Red Wings.
Dallas at Anaheim 10:00 PM ET
The Anaheim Ducks expect to have their captain in the lineup when they host the Dallas Stars in Game 2 of their Western Conference first-round series on Friday. Ryan Getzlaf was hit in the face with a slap shot by Tyler Seguin late in the third period of Anaheim's 4-3 victory in the series opener and was retreated to the locker room for treatment. The veteran underwent X-rays, which were negative, and required a number of stitches to close a deep facial laceration.
