Preview Roundups
February 28, 2015
Buffalo at Florida 3:00 PM ET
The Florida Panthers are wagering that the acquisition of Jaromir Jagr can help them overcome their scoring troubles. The future Hall-of-Famer is expected to be in the lineup as the Panthers attempt to snap their four-game winless streak (0-3-1) when they host the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday afternoon.
Detroit at Nashville 3:00 PM ET
The Detroit Red Wings wrap up a six-game Western Conference road trip with a visit to the Nashville Predators on Saturday. The Red Wings are 3-1-1 on the trek and 15-3-3 against Western Conference opponents. Detroit is also 17-10-4 on the road, but Nashville owns a league-best 26-4-1 home record.
Carolina at NY Islanders 5:00 PM ET
The New York Islanders may be closing down Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum at the end of this season, but at least they're giving the Long Island faithful plenty for which to cheer. The Islanders look to extend their season-long home dominance Saturday evening as they conclude a four-game homestand against the Carolina Hurricanes. The Islanders earned their 23rd home win of the season Friday night against Calgary, matching their highest single-season total in more than a decade.
New Jersey at Columbus 5:00 PM ET
The New Jersey Devils and Columbus Blue Jackets look to strengthen their flickering postseason aspirations at the other's expense when the Metropolitan Division rivals meet at Nationwide Arena on Saturday. New Jersey overcame a two-goal deficit on Friday but saw its glorious chance to improve its tenuous standing go by the boards as it dropped a 3-2 overtime decision to Boston.
Arizona at Boston 5:30 PM ET
The Boston Bruins look to ride the momentum of an emotional overtime victory as they open a four-game homestand against the reeling Arizona Coyotes on Saturday. Boston squandered a two-goal lead in the third period before Ryan Spooner scored his first career goal 2:46 into overtime in a 3-2 triumph over New Jersey on Friday.
Toronto at Montreal 7:00 PM ET
The Eastern Conference-leading Montreal Canadiens vie for their fourth consecutive victory when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. Montreal, which is one point ahead of the New York Islanders in the East, is riding a three-game streak during which it sandwiched triumphs over Columbus around one against St. Louis.
NY Rangers at Philadelphia 8:00 PM ET
The New York Rangers are riding their longest point streak in seven years and take a four-game winning streak into Saturday's matchup at the Philadelphila Flyers. The Rangers have surged into contention for the lead in the Metropolitan Division on the heels of an 8-0-2 stretch - the first time they have earned points in 10 straight contests since a 13-game run from Feb. 9-March 10, 2008. New York has won four in a row against Philadelphia, including all three meetings this season.
Minnesota at Colorado 10:00 PM ET
The Colorado Avalanche have scored 165 goals this season, but none have come against the Minnesota Wild. Colorado will try to snap a three-game goalless string against its Central Division rivals as it hosts the red-hot Wild on Saturday night. Minnesota opened its regular season with consecutive shutout victories over the Avalanche, then extended Colorado's dry spell with a 1-0 victory Feb. 7 to increase its winning streak over the Avalanche to five games.
St. Louis at Edmonton 10:00 PM ET
The St. Louis Blues attempt to complete a sweep of the three-game season series when they visit the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday. Vladimir Tarasenko has been a thorn in the Oilers' side, scoring the winning goal and adding an assist in a 4-3 overtime victory at St. Louis on Nov. 28 before netting a tally and setting up another in a 4-2 triumph in Edmonton on Jan. 13.
Ottawa at San Jose 10:00 PM ET
With a rookie goaltender starring as the most improbable savior, the Ottawa Senators have won four in a row and are making a surprising run at a postseason slot as they prepare to visit the San Jose Sharks on Saturday night. Rookie Andrew Hammond is 4-0-0 since he was called up from the minors, including back-to-back shutouts of Anaheim and Los Angeles. "I'm not (Montreal's) Carey Price, and I still have a long ways to go," Hammond said. "I'm just trying to enjoy it and ride the wave."
