Preview Roundups
February 21, 2015
NY Islanders at Washington 12:30 PM ET
The New York Islanders look to continue running roughshod through Metropolitan Division rivals when they visit the Verizon Center to wrap up their four-game season series versus the Washington Capitals on Saturday afternoon. The first-place Islanders own a gaudy 19-3-0 record against members of their division, including a 2-1-0 mark versus Washington.
Nashville at Philadelphia 1:00 PM ET
The Philadelphia Flyers face their toughest test of the month when they host the league-leading Nashville Predators on Saturday afternoon. The Predators defeated Philadelphia 4-1 in Music City on Dec. 27, but the Flyers are 15-8-5 at home and 5-3-1 against Central Division opponents. Nashville saw its six-game winning streak come to an end Thursday with a 5-2 road loss to the New York Islanders, while Philadelphia is 4-1-2 in its last seven home games.
Winnipeg at Toronto 7:00 PM ET
If the Winnipeg Jets hope to make any headway in the race for a Western Conference playoff spot, they'll need to improve what has been a dismal penalty killing unit over the past week and a half. The Jets look to halt their short-handed struggles Saturday as they visit the Toronto Maple Leafs in the second of two meetings between the clubs. Winnipeg has allowed at least two power-play goals in four straight games, including Thursday's 5-1 loss to Washington.
Columbus at Montreal 7:00 PM ET
The Montreal Canadiens may hold a share of the top spot in the Eastern Conference, but their lack of scoring punch could knock them down for the count in the postseason. The Canadiens look to find their offense and avoid a three-game losing streak when they host the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday. Montreal mustered two or fewer goals for the ninth time in 12 contests en route to a 3-2 shootout loss to Florida on Thursday.
Florida at Ottawa 7:00 PM ET
The Florida Panthers have battled their way back into serious contention for a playoff spot and look to keep things rolling when they visit the Ottawa Senators on Saturday night. The Panthers are 5-2-2 in their last nine after a 3-2 shootout victory at Montreal on Thursday. “There’s a lot of work to be done,” Florida's Roberto Luongo told reporters. “We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves. We realize we’re back in the thick of things, which is exciting and fun for our group.”
Carolina at New Jersey 7:00 PM ET
The New Jersey Devils may miss the playoffs this season, but it won't be due to struggles in their own building. The Devils look to continue their recent home success Saturday night as they entertain the Carolina Hurricanes in a battle between the bottom two teams in the Metropolitan Division. New Jersey is 8-1-2 in its last 11 games at Prudential Center, and has kicked off a six-game homestand with wins over the Buffalo Sabres and Vancouver Canucks.
Anaheim at Edmonton 7:00 PM ET
The Anaheim Ducks appear to be on the verge of breaking out of their funk, which could spell bad news for the Edmonton Oilers when they host the Pacific Division leaders on Saturday. Anaheim defeated the Flames 6-3 in Calgary on Friday for its fourth win in 11 games, erasing a 2-0 deficit by scoring five consecutive goals and netting a total of five in the third period.
Pittsburgh at St. Louis 8:00 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Penguins attempt to avoid a fourth consecutive loss when they visit the St. Louis Blues on Saturday. Pittsburgh's offense has been on hiatus as it has scored just one goal in each game of its current skid. The Penguins dropped a 2-1 decision to Columbus at home on Thursday, with Evgeni Malkin netting the lone tally.
Detroit at Dallas 8:00 PM ET
The Detroit Red Wings make the second stop of a brutal six-game road trip when they visit to the Dallas Stars on Saturday. The Red Wings, who are chasing Montreal and Tampa Bay for first place in the Atlantic Division, halted a three-game skid (0-2-1) with a 3-2 shootout victory at Chicago on Wednesday. “It’s huge,” netminder Jimmy Howard said. “Now we can enjoy it for a couple days and get ready for Dallas because this road trip is going to get a lot harder.”
Tampa Bay at Arizona 8:00 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Lightning can assure themselves a winning road trip with a victory when they continue their five-game trek against the struggling Arizona Coyotes on Saturday. The Lightning sandwiched a 3-2 setback at Los Angeles around victories over San Jose and Anaheim while posting 11 goals total – two each by All Stars Tyler Johnson and captain Steven Stamkos. Tampa Bay leads the league in scoring while Arizona recorded only 10 goals in the last seven games and has dropped four straight.
Los Angeles at San Jose 10:00 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings attempt to extend their winning streak to seven games when they meet the San Jose Sharks at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, Calif. on Saturday in the latest installment of the Coors Light NHL Stadium Series. Los Angeles began the month with back-to-back losses before reeling off six consecutive victories, including a 4-1 triumph at Colorado on Wednesday. Jeff Carter scored twice and Tyler Toffoli added a goal and an assist as the Kings posted their third straight road win.
