Preview Roundups
February 19, 2019
Buffalo at Florida 7:00 PM ET
The Buffalo Sabres are six points out a playoff spot but are showing no signs of climbing back into contention as they prepare to open a rugged seven-game stretch with a visit to the Florida Panthers on Tuesday night. Buffalo has not won consecutive games since Dec. 11-13 and was outscored 10-3 in back-to-back losses to the New York Rangers and New Jersey Devils.
Pittsburgh at New Jersey 7:00 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Penguins appear to have turned the corner with wins in three of their last four games to gain a tenuous hold on one of the wild-card spots in the Eastern Conference. The Penguins look to continue their good fortune and avoid the indignity of being swept in the season series by the cellar-dwelling New Jersey Devils on Tuesday when the Metropolitan Division rivals meet in Newark (N.J.).
Tampa Bay at Philadelphia 7:00 PM ET
The Philadelphia Flyers have climbed back into contention for an Eastern Conference playoff spot with a remarkable run and will test themselves on Tuesday, when they host the NHL-leading Tampa Bay Lightning. The Flyers have won three in a row and earned points in 13 of their last 14 games (12-1-1) after sweeping a home-and-home series against Detroit over the weekend, with red-hot rookie goaltender Carter Hart in the crease for both victories.
NY Rangers at Carolina 7:00 PM ET
Having ended a 16-game losing streak at Madison Square Garden on Feb. 8, the Carolina Hurricanes have a chance to halt an even longer drought against the New York Rangers when the teams collide Tuesday night in Raleigh, N.C. The Hurricanes have a chance to win a season series against New York for the first time since 2005-06 -- the year they hoisted the Stanley Cup.
Columbus at Montreal 7:30 PM ET
The Columbus Blue Jackets have been more comfortable on the road than at home lately and hope that trend continues Tuesday, when they visit the struggling Montreal Canadiens. Columbus has lost five of its last six home games, including Monday's 5-1 setback against league-leading Tampa Bay.
Toronto at St. Louis 8:00 PM ET
Vladimir Tarasenko and quality goaltending have served as the staples for the rapidly ascending St. Louis Blues, with the former riding a career-high 12-game point streak while the latter has been present in the form of three straight shutouts. The red-hot Blues vie for a franchise-best 11th straight win on Tuesday when they host the Toronto Maple Leafs, who were shut out in their last outing.
Anaheim at Minnesota 8:00 PM ET
Despite leading Anaheim to a fourth straight division title in 2015-16, Bruce Boudreau was fired when the Ducks flamed out in the postseason that year. Boudreau's former club hardly resembles the perennial power under his watch, but he's more focused on how to turn around the Minnesota Wild, who also are in disarray entering Tuesday night's matchup against visiting Anaheim.
Nashville at Dallas 8:30 PM ET
The Dallas Stars began what they hoped would be a promising five-game road trip with a 3-2 overtime loss to the Nashville Predators, only to limp to a 1-3-1 mark after recording back-to-back shutouts to conclude the trek. The Stars look to dust themselves off in the opener of a three-game homestand on Tuesday when the Predators pay a visit to American Airlines Center.
Arizona at Edmonton 9:00 PM ET
The Arizona Coyotes are trying to remain relevant in the Western Conference playoff race and can take a step in the right direction with a victory over the host Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday. Arizona started a three-game road trip with a 5-2 loss at Calgary on Monday and is one of four teams within three points of Minnesota for the second wild-card spot.
