Preview Roundups
January 14, 2017
Philadelphia at Boston 1:00 PM ET
The Boston Bruins had their breath momentarily taken away as 2014 Vezina Trophy winner Tuukka Rask was left sprawled on the ice after a slap shot caught him flush in the mask. The Bruins breathed a sigh of relief after Rask shook off the cobwebs and reported to practice the following day, and the goaltender expects to be in the lineup on Saturday afternoon to face the visiting Philadelphia Flyers.
Nashville at Colorado 3:00 PM ET
Rugged forward Cody McLeod was traded by the Colorado Avalanche, but he won't have to wait long to face his former team. One day after McLeod was shipped to Nashville, McLeod will be waiting to greet new teammates at Pepsi Arena when the Predators kick off a five-game road trip against the Avalanche on Saturday afternoon.
NY Rangers at Montreal 7:00 PM ET
Carey Price's trophy case includes a Hart and a Vezina, but Montreal's elite goaltender is a team player first as he tries to bounce back from his worst game in nearly four years when the Canadiens host the New York Rangers on Saturday. Price yielded seven goals in Thursday's 7-1 loss to Minnesota - the most he's allowed since March 2, 2013 in a 7-6 overtime setback against Pittsburgh and one shy of his career high in an 8-6 defeat to Boston on Feb. 9, 2011.
Pittsburgh at Detroit 7:00 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Penguins look to avoid slipping further down in the Metropolitan Division and salvage the finale of their three-game road trip when they visit the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday. Pittsburgh entered Friday tied with the New York Rangers for third place in the division after dropping five of its last 11 games (6-3-2), including the first two contests of its trek at Washington and Ottawa.
Toronto at Ottawa 7:00 PM ET
The Ottawa Senators feel good about themselves as they try for their sixth straight victory over the red-hot Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. Ottawa, which also puts its five-game home winning streak against Toronto on the line, is coming off a 4-1 victory over Pittsburgh four days after ending a four-game slide with a 5-3 win over Edmonton on Sunday, while the Maple Leafs improved to 7-1-1 in their last nine with Friday's 4-2 victory over the New York Rangers.
Columbus at Florida 7:00 PM ET
The league-leading Columbus Blue Jackets hope to have Sergei Bobrovsky back in net Saturday as they attempt to complete a sweep in the Sunshine State when they visit the Florida Panthers. Columbus' All-Star goaltender was relegated to bench duty Friday because of an illness, but the team still managed to avoid a third straight road loss by topping Tampa Bay 3-1.
NY Islanders at Carolina 7:00 PM ET
After earning their first victory of the calendar year, the New York Islanders try to make it two in as many nights when they continue their three-game road trip Saturday against the home-dominant Carolina Hurricanes. New York went 0-1-2 over its first three contests this month before gaining a split of a home-and-home series against Florida with Friday's 5-2 triumph in the Sunshine State.
Anaheim at Arizona 8:00 PM ET
The Anaheim Ducks have had their ups and downs throughout the last three months, but the route they have taken has led to first place in the Pacific Division at midseason. The Ducks look to complete a perfect two-game trip and notch at least a point for the 10th time in 11 contests when they visit the rejuvenated Arizona Coyotes on Saturday night.
Minnesota at Dallas 8:00 PM ET
The surging Minnesota Stars have failed to earn a point only once in their last 18 games as they prepare for a rugged back-to-back on the road against Central Division rivals. The Stars, in the midst of a 15-1-2 run since the beginning of December, visit the Dallas Stars on Saturday followed by a trip to Central-leading Chicago on Sunday.
Winnipeg at Los Angeles 10:00 PM ET
The Los Angeles Kings look to build off perhaps their best performance in the last three weeks when they host the struggling Winnipeg Jets on Saturday night. Los Angeles, which holds down the final wild-card spot in the Western Conference, improved to 2-2 on their seven-game homestand with a 5-1 triumph against St. Louis on Thursday as Jeff Carter remained hot.
Calgary at Edmonton 10:00 PM ET
Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers opened the season by putting on an offensive showcase against provincial rival Calgary, pumping in 12 goals while sweeping a home-and-home series against the Flames. Calgary gets a chance to avenge those losses when they visit Edmonton on Saturday in the latest chapter of the Battle of Alberta.
St. Louis at San Jose 10:30 PM ET
The St. Louis Blues attempt to avoid a third straight overall loss when they continue their California trip Saturday against the San Jose Sharks. St. Louis concluded a 3-3-0 homestand with a loss to Boston on Tuesday before beginning its trek with a 5-1 setback in Los Angeles two nights later.
