Preview Roundups
December 08, 2015
Central Conn. St. at Rutgers 6:00 PM ET
After starting the season 3-1 Rutgers has not only lost four straight, but also its leading scorer. The host Scarlet Knights will be without Deshawn Freeman when they look to end their skid against winless Central Connecticut State on Tuesday.
West Virginia at Virginia 7:00 PM ET
West Virginia has overwhelmed its first seven opponents with its constant pressure, but the 14th-ranked Mountaineers face their toughest test Tuesday against No. 10 Virginia in the Jimmy V Classic at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The battle of contrasting styles matches the up-tempo Mountaineers against the controlled Cavaliers, who rank sixth in the nation in scoring defense at 57.5 points per game.
Houston at Rhode Island 7:00 PM ET

Undefeated Houston will face its toughest test of the young season when the Cougars travel to Rhode Island on Tuesday. The Cougars have outscored their opponents - who have a combined 15-24 record - by an average of 25.2 points.

Penn St. at George Washington 7:00 PM ET
George Washington looks to continue its success against power conference opponents when it hosts Penn State on Tuesday. With wins over Virginia, Tennessee and Seton Hall, the Colonials have improved to 11-4 since 2013 against teams from the ACC, Big East, Big 10, Pac-12 and SEC, a record they can improve against the Nittany Lions and later this month Rutgers and DePaul.
Florida at Miami-Florida 7:00 PM ET
Miami (Fla.) has been an offensive machine, but the Hurricanes host a Florida team Tuesday that plays suffocating defense. Although the rivalry goes back to 1928, this pivotal early season battle will be the first true road game for the Gators against the No. 20 Hurricanes since 2005.
Winthrop at Georgia 7:00 PM ET
Georgia plays its last game before an 11-day break when it hosts Winthrop on Tuesday, and the Bulldogs will seek the consistency that has been missing through a 3-3 start. Friday’s 68-66 home loss to Kansas State showed just how good the Bulldogs can be, with Georgia shooting 50 percent from the field in the first half before being outscored 40-29 after halftime.
Colgate at Syracuse 7:00 PM ET
Syracuse was feeling good after winning the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament in the Bahamas last month. But now, after two straight losses and with its Top 25 ranking gone and its Hall of Fame coach banned from the sideline, the Orange aim for a much-needed win against visiting Colgate on Tuesday.
Massachusetts at Central Florida 7:00 PM ET
Cold shooting has undone Massachusetts in two of its last three games and that challenge looks to get tougher Tuesday, when it visits a UCF team that has defended as well as anyone in the country. The Knights have held six foes to 36.4 percent shooting, including 28.5 percent on 3-pointers.
Wright St. at Xavier 7:00 PM ET

Xavier looks to improve to 9-0 for the first time since 2008-09 when the 13th-ranked Musketeers host Wright State on Tuesday. The Musketeers have matched their best start under coach Chris Mack, and their eight-game winning streak is their longest since winning their final nine regular-season games in 2010-11.

Texas-San Antonio at Texas 8:00 PM ET

Texas will look to ride Cameron Ridley to a third straight win when the Longhorns host UTSA on Tuesday. The senior center has been solid in the middle and first-year coach Shaka Smart wants his team to get Ridley the ball more.

Air Force at Ohio St. 8:00 PM ET

In its previous game, Ohio State defeated VMI to snap its first four-game non-conference losing streak since 1957. The Buckeyes on Tuesday look to gain some more momentum in the right direction when they host an Air Force team that has won three straight games by a total of eight points.

San Jose St. at Marquette 8:00 PM ET
Henry Ellenson loves it when the walk-ons get a chance to play for Marquette, which will be eyeing its four straight easy victory and sixth straight overall Tuesday when San Jose State comes to town. The Golden Eagles, who recently beat up on Maine behind a career-high 23 points from the freshman Ellenson, have won their last three games by an average of 34 points, giving the walk-ons plenty of opportunities to see the court.
Northwestern St. at Baylor 8:00 PM ET
Baylor coach Scott Drew hoped Sunday’s matchup with Vanderbilt would give the Bears a taste of how rugged Big 12 Conference play will be starting next month, and now the Bears have to refocus after a thrilling victory in a meeting of ranked teams. No. 15 Baylor hosts struggling Northwestern State on Tuesday, two days after rallying from 13 points down to upend the Commodores 69-67.
South Dakota State at Minnesota 8:00 PM ET
The Summit League has already proven to be a handful for Minnesota, which saw the nation’s second-longest non-conference home winning streak fall by the wayside to a team from the mid-major conference over the weekend. The Golden Gophers attempt to bounce back against their third opponent from the Summit League in four games when they host South Dakota State on Tuesday.
Iona at Tulsa 9:00 PM ET
Two teams traveling in the opposite directions go head-to-head Tuesday night when Iona travels to Tulsa for a non-conference matchup. Iona has won three straight, while Tulsa has lost three of four since reeling off a four-game winning streak that included an upset of then-No. 11 Wichita State.
Michigan at Southern Methodist 9:00 PM ET
SMU looks to pass its biggest test of the young season when it hosts Michigan on Tuesday. The Mustangs have reeled off six consecutive wins and are coming off a 98-44 victory over New Hampshire on Saturday - the fourth-largest margin of victory in school history - to record their best start since opening the 1997-98 campaign with a 10-0 mark.
Evansville at Arkansas 9:00 PM ET
A matchup of two excellent post players will take center stage on Tuesday, when Arkansas hosts Evansville in a nonconference game. The Razorbacks are led in the middle by 6-foot-10, 230-pound sophomore Moses Kingsley, who is averaging 16.4 points and 9.7 rebounds, while Evansville is anchored by 6-10, 225-pound center Egidijus Mockevicius, whose numbers are even better at 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds.
Stony Brook at Notre Dame 9:00 PM ET
Notre Dame returns to the court after nearly a week away when it hosts Stony Brook in a non-conference matchup on Tuesday night. The Fighting Irish won their Big Ten/ACC Challenge game at Illinois last week but have been off ever since, giving Mike Brey's team time to recharge.
Montana at Gonzaga 9:00 PM ET
Gonzaga looks to rebound from a rare home loss when it takes on Montana on Tuesday. The No. 17 Bulldogs dropped a 68-63 showdown to Arizona last Saturday to lose at home for just the 10th time in 12 seasons since moving into the McCarthey Athletic Center.
Maryland at Connecticut 9:30 PM ET

Connecticut no longer makes its annual trip to Madison Square Garden for the Big East Tournament, but the Huskies will try to earn another big victory in that building when they take on No. 9 Maryland on Tuesday in the Jimmy V Classic. It’s a matchup of one of the nation’s most efficient offensive teams (Maryland ranks third nationally at 54.5 percent shooting) against one of the top defensive teams (UConn is 10th in the nation in field-goal defense at 36.1 percent).

Texas Christian at Washington 11:00 PM ET

Washington continues its longest homestand since 1949-50 on Tuesday when it hosts TCU. The eight-game stretch got off to a slow start, though, Sunday when Cal State Fullerton jumped out to an 11-point lead eight minutes into the contest.
