Preview Roundups
March 16, 2016
Southern at Holy Cross 6:40 PM ET
Despite going one-and-done in the NCAA Tournament eight times since earning its last victory at the Big Dance in 1953, Holy Cross has been a headache for the big-time programs it has faced in those contests. The Crusaders will attempt to end their 63-year postseason winning drought Wednesday when they meet fellow No. 16 seed Southern in a First Four game in Dayton, Ohio.
Belmont at Georgia 7:00 PM ET
Georgia’s late-season surge was not enough to get the Bulldogs their second consecutive NCAA Tournament bid, but they earned a shot at a 20-win season by making the NIT. Georgia is a No. 3 seed in the event, opening play at home Wednesday against No. 6 seed Belmont, and the goal is to reach 20 victories for a third straight season for just the second time in program history.
Princeton at Virginia Tech 8:00 PM ET
Making its first appearance in the postseason in five years, Virginia Tech enters the NIT as a No. 3 seed and will open with a home date against sixth-seeded Princeton on Wednesday. The Hokies won six of their last seven games, including victories over NCAA Tournament teams Pittsburgh and Miami (Fla.) and two wins against NIT-bound Florida State.
Houston at Georgia Tech 9:00 PM ET
Fifth-seeded Houston and fourth-seeded Georgia Tech were rewarded for their improvements this season with a meeting Wednesday in the NIT. The host Yellow Jackets recorded their most wins since 2010 and had a pair of top-25 wins (Virginia and Notre Dame) during ACC play.
Tulsa at Michigan 9:10 PM ET
Michigan likely locked up its at-large bid in the NCAA Tournament with a Big Ten tournament win over top-seed Indiana on Friday, but Tulsa has to be feeling pretty lucky it made the Big Dance after leaving a poor last impression on the committee its last time out. The Golden Hurricane look to prove their doubters wrong Wednesday in a First Four game against Michigan in a battle of No. 11 seeds in the East Region at Dayton, Ohio.
