Preview Roundups
March 03, 2013
Villanova at Pittsburgh 12:00 PM ET
Villanova could use another quality victory or two to earn an NCAA at-large bid and it has two big opportunities to end the regular season. The Wildcats start with a trip to Pittsburgh on Sunday afternoon before hosting first-place Georgetown on Wednesday. Villanova has not won at Pittsburgh since 1996 -- losing nine straight -- and was throttled 58-43 by the Panthers in Philadelphia on Jan. 16. The Wildcats had won five of six games before a damaging 66-65 loss at Seton Hall last Monday.
Purdue at Wisconsin 1:00 PM ET
No. 16 Wisconsin was considered something of an afterthought in the Big Ten following the graduation of Jordan Taylor and again after losing point guard Josh Gasser before the start of the season. Yet the Badgers find themselves one game out of first place in the conference heading into their final home game of the season Saturday against Purdue. Wisconsin has won six of seven and has been dominant during its current three-game winning streak.
Florida St. at North Carolina 2:00 PM ET
Following an 0-2 start in conference play, North Carolina collected its first ACC victory Jan. 12 against Florida State. With another victory over the Seminoles on Sunday, the Tar Heels can further bolster their NCAA Tournament resume.
DePaul at South Florida 2:00 PM ET
The two teams at the bottom of the Big East square off Sunday when South Florida hosts DePaul. The matchup is a contrast in weaknesses. DePaul ranks among the bottom 25 teams in Division I in scoring defense and has been even worse in Big East play, allowing nearly 82 points per game. Last-place South Florida is 332nd in scoring (58.5). The Bulls have been held under 50 points in four of their past six games, including Wednesday's 64-44 drubbing at Pittsburgh -- their 10th straight loss.
Washington St. at Washington 3:30 PM ET
Washington State looks to snap an eight-game losing streak when the Cougars visit Washington in a matchup disappointing Pac-12 teams. The Cougars are last in the Pac-12 after suffering a number of close losses this season. Seven of the Cougars’ 17 losses are by four points or fewer, and five are by two points or fewer. The Huskies have won eight of the last 10 meetings against Washington State, including four in a row.
Virginia at Boston College 4:00 PM ET
Coming off its biggest win in more than a decade, Virginia tries to maintain that momentum in a Sunday afternoon ACC game at Boston College. The Cavaliers defeated No. 3 Duke on Thursday, their first win over a top-5 opponent since February 28, 2002. That also clinched Virginia's second straight 20-win season, something the program hasn't accomplished since a five-year stretch that ended with the 1992-93 campaign.
Michigan St at Michigan 4:00 PM ET
Michigan’s Big Ten title hopes probably ended after it blew a 15-point lead in the second half and lost at last-place Penn State on Wednesday. The fourth-ranked Wolverines should be an angry, focused group when they return home to face rival Michigan State on Sunday afternoon. Michigan can still be a major factor in the conference and NCAA tournaments, but must find answers after losing four of its last seven.
Utah at Stanford 5:00 PM ET
Two teams far removed from the Pac-12 title race meet Sunday when Stanford hosts Utah, which has lost five of its last six games. Stanford has lost seven conference games by fewer than 10 points, including a 65-63 defeat to Colorado on Wednesday. The Cardinal crushed Utah 87-56 in the teams’ first matchup on Jan. 27.
N.C. State at Georgia Tech 6:00 PM ET
North Carolina State looks for its fifth ACC win in six games when the Wolfpack visit Georgia Tech on Sunday. North Carolina State, fifth in the conference standings, is coming off an 82-64 win over Boston College on Wednesday. The Wolfpack have scored 78-plus points in five of their last seven games and outrebounded their last three opponents (Boston College, North Carolina, Florida State) by an average of 15.7 boards.
