Preview Roundups
February 15, 2015
Illinois at Wisconsin 1:00 PM ET
Fourth-ranked Wisconsin attempts to secure its eighth consecutive victory when it hosts Illinois in Big Ten play on Sunday. The Badgers’ 22-2 mark equals the best start in school history and only a complete breakdown will prevent Wisconsin from winning the Big Ten’s regular-season crown. The Fighting Illini have won four consecutive games and an upset of the Badgers would give a strong boost to the squad’s NCAA Tournament chances.
Houston at Central Florida 2:00 PM ET
Houston tries to snap a two-game losing streak when it visits UCF for an American Athletic Conference game Sunday. The Cougars have lost 10 of their last 12 games, including a 79-78 overtime setback at home against UCF on Jan. 6. Houston is coming off a 75-69 loss at home to No. 25 SMU on Thursday.
Iowa at Northwestern 3:00 PM ET
Iowa is hoping to shake out of a slump and perhaps lands the perfect opponent to do so when it visits Northwestern in Sunday’s Big Ten game. The Hawkeyes have lost four of their last six games, not exactly the type of performance a team on the NCAA Tournament bubble wants to string together with the final weeks of the regular season on the horizon. The Wildcats have really been struggling and bring a 10-game losing streak into the contest.
Northern Iowa at Missouri St. 4:00 PM ET
Northern Iowa tries for its 13th consecutive victory when it visits Missouri State for a Missouri Valley Conference game Sunday. The No. 12 Panthers are coming off an 83-64 victory over Illinois State on Wednesday and their 12-game winning streak was tied for the fifth-longest current win streak in the nation entering Saturday. Northern Iowa is ranked fourth in the country in scoring defense, allowing only 54.8 points per game.
Stanford at Colorado 4:00 PM ET
The last two-plus weeks have not been kind to Chasson Randle and Stanford, which visits Colorado on Sunday in a Pac-12 matchup between two struggling teams. The Cardinal have dropped three of their last four games and are coming off their most lopsided defeat of the season. The Buffaloes, meanwhile, have dropped three straight games - one shy of their season high - and have lost seven of their last nine overall.
Nebraska at Purdue 5:15 PM ET
Purdue looks to stay on course for its first trip to the NCAA Tournament in three seasons when struggling Nebraska pays a visit Sunday in Big Ten play. The Boilermakers defeated Rutgers 61-51 on Thursday for their fifth victory in the last six games to keep themselves in the middle of a crowded battle for second place in the conference with six games to go. Nebraska has dropped four of its last five contests overall and has posted just one true road victory in eight attempts this season.
Arizona St. at Washington 5:30 PM ET
Washington coach Lorenzo Romar is desperately seeking some defensive intensity, more offensive consistency and - above all - a win. The Huskies carry a six-game losing streak into Sunday's home matchup with Arizona State, which has alternated wins and losses in its last six games. Washington has a week off after this game, meaning that a loss will keep the Huskies winless for at least a month since their last triumph Jan. 22.
Arizona at Washington St. 6:30 PM ET
Arizona’s recent loss to Arizona State might have refocused the seventh-ranked Wildcats, who enter Sunday’s contest at Washington State on a high note. Coach Sean Miller’s squad bounced back from its Feb. 7 loss to the Sun Devils with an 86-62 win over Washington State on Friday as Stanley Johnson scored 20 points to lead five players in double figures. Arizona has won seven in a row against the Cougars, who moved into eighth place in the Pac-12 with Friday’s 74-71 win over Arizona State.
Miami-Florida at Boston College 6:30 PM ET
With losses in four of its last five games, Miami (Fla.) could use a bit of a boost to get back to .500 in ACC play. The Hurricanes will attempt to do just that when they hit the road on Sunday eyeing a regular-season sweep of Boston College. Miami stood at 14-5 overall and 4-2 in the league after winning at Syracuse on Jan. 24 but has mostly floundered since, picking up three of its four losses over that span to teams that sit below the Hurricanes in the conference standings.
Minnesota at Indiana 7:30 PM ET
Yogi Ferrell of Indiana and Andre Hollins of Minnesota will try to continue their hot shooting streaks when the Hoosiers host the Golden Gophers in a Big Ten game Sunday. Ferrell is averaging 19.9 points in the last seven games while shooting 26-for-48 from 3-point distance in that span. Hollins is averaging 21 points in the last seven games, shooting 29-for-53 from beyond the arc in that stretch to bump his season mark to 44.2 percent, a nice improvement from the 34.9 he shot last season.
California at Utah 8:30 PM ET
Utah puts its 16-game home winning streak on the line Sunday when the 10th-ranked Utes host California, which has won five in a row following a six-game losing skid. The Golden Bears handled the altitude in Thursday’s 68-61 win at struggling Colorado, but they face a tougher test against Utah, whose average margin of victory in its nine Pac-12 wins stands at 23.7. Tyrone Wallace averages a team-high 17.4 points for Cal, which has won the last three meetings against the Utes in Salt Lake City.
