Preview Roundups
February 06, 2016
Kansas at Texas Christian 12:00 PM ET
Kansas has seemingly righted the ship after a bit of up-and-down play lately, although the true test of the team's recent improvement probably won't come until next week. The sixth-ranked Jayhawks, who won consecutive games for the first time in nearly three weeks, will attempt to halt a three-game road losing streak Saturday at Big 12 cellar-dweller TCU.
Virginia at Pittsburgh 12:00 PM ET
After playing fairly ordinary defense for most of the season, No. 9 Virginia has returned to form by allowing an average of 58.4 points during its five-game winning streak. The stingy Cavaliers will need another strong defensive effort Saturday against as they visit Pittsburgh, which averages 80.5 points and shot 52.9 percent in last Sunday’s 90-71 win over Virginia Tech.
Florida St. at Wake Forest 12:00 PM ET
Florida State aims for its fourth straight win when it visits ACC rival Wake Forest on Saturday afternoon. After a slow start to conference play, the Seminoles have evened up their ACC record at 5-5 and have their sights set on cracking into the top half of the league standings.
Temple at Central Florida 12:00 PM ET
A few weeks ago, Devin Coleman’s 3-point shooting led Temple to a signature win over then-undefeated SMU, but the Owls failed to take advantage by stumbling in their next contest. Temple will try again to use a Coleman shot from the arc to spark a run down the stretch in the American Athletic Conference when it visits UCF on Saturday.
Boston College at Louisville 12:00 PM ET
Louisville opened the week with the high of defeating top-ranked North Carolina but will end it by beginning one of the low points in program history after announcing Friday it will self-impose a postseason ban as a result of uncovering violations within the men's basketball program. The 18th-ranked Cardinals attempt to pick up the pieces one day later when they host league-worst Boston College.
Marquette at Xavier 12:00 PM ET
Fifth-ranked Xavier attempts to win five straight Big East games for the first time when it hosts Marquette on Saturday. The Musketeers slipped past St. John's on Wednesday to become the first team in Division I to reach 20 wins and also matched their longest conference win streak of four games, first set with a Jan. 16 road victory over the Golden Eagles.
Cincinnati at Memphis 12:00 PM ET
Cincinnati is quietly putting together a good season and the Bearcats look to win for the seventh time in eight games when they visit Memphis in Saturday's American Athletic Conference tilt. The hot stretch has allowed Cincinnati to move into a tie with Temple for second place in the conference as the Bearcats chase their sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament bid.
N.C. State at Duke 2:00 PM ET
Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski is expected to be back on the sideline as the Blue Devils attempt to win consecutive games for the first time in almost a month Saturday night when North Carolina State visits for an ACC matchup. Krzyzewski did not make the trip for Duke’s 80-71 victory at Georgia Tech on Tuesday due to illness.
Iowa St. at Oklahoma St. 2:00 PM ET
Fourteenth-ranked Iowa State looks to try to win its third consecutive Big 12 road game while also snapping a two-game losing streak when it visits Oklahoma State on Saturday. The Cyclones, who picked up victories during their last two trips to Stillwater, haven’t won three straight Big 12 road games since the 2004-05 season but will have to do so without forward Jameel McKay, the team's leading rebounder and fourth-leading scorer, who was suspended indefinitely Friday by coach Steve Prohm.
Texas Tech at Texas 2:00 PM ET
Texas looks to continue its surge when the Longhorns host Texas Tech on Saturday. The Longhorns have won six of seven - including three against ranked opponents - to move into a three-way tie for third in the Big 12, one game behind leaders Oklahoma and West Virginia.
Michigan St at Michigan 2:00 PM ET
No. 10 Michigan State looks to make up some ground on its rivals in the race for the Big Ten title when it hits the road to face Michigan Saturday. The Spartans have won three straight games - including a 96-62 victory over Rutgers - to move within striking distance of No. 21 Indiana and seventh-ranked Iowa as they begin a challenging three-game stretch against teams currently ahead of them in the conference standings.
Rutgers at Nebraska 2:00 PM ET

Nebraska and Rutgers both had opportunities to pull off an upset last time they played, but the Cornhuskers ran out of gas and lost to the nation's No. 3 team, Maryland, and Rutgers fell in triple overtime to Illinois. On Saturday, the Scarlet Knights head to Nebr

DePaul at Creighton 2:00 PM ET

Struggling Creighton is looking to get back on track following three straight losses. The Bluejays have a prime opportunity Saturday when they host DePaul, which enters the weekend second to last in the Big East standings.

Villanova at Providence 2:30 PM ET
Ben Bentil was the driving force when Providence handed Villanova its only Big East loss last month, but the league's leading scorer is questionable with an ankle injury for the rematch Saturday in Rhode Island. Bentil, who scored 10 of his 31 points in overtime to help the Friars to an 82-76 win at the Wildcats on Jan. 24, was limited to 14 minutes in Tuesday's loss at DePaul.
Missouri at Alabama 3:00 PM ET

Alabama looks to pick up consecutive victories in Southeastern Conference play for the first time this season when it hosts struggling Missouri on Saturday. The Tigers have lost 21 straight road games and are reeling both on and off the court.

Florida at Kentucky 4:00 PM ET
No. 19 Kentucky will be looking to end a two-game slide when it hosts surging Florida on Saturday afternoon at Rupp Arena. The Wildcats and Florida enter the game tied with South Carolina for third place in the SEC only a game behind Texas A&M and LSU.
South Carolina at Texas A&M 4:00 PM ET

Two of the Southeastern Conference’s top teams are in the unfamiliar territory of trying to bounce back from a defeat as eighth-ranked Texas A&M hosts No. 23 South Carolina on Saturday. Both teams look to avoid losing back-to-back games for the first time this season as they battle to remain in the SEC’s top tier.

Clemson at Virginia Tech 4:00 PM ET
Clemson overcame a slow start against Wake Forest to post the highest-scoring half in coach Brad Brownell’s 185-game tenure to hold off a Demon Deacons’ upset bid Tuesday. The Tigers, who could be on the verge of jumping into the Top 25, hope to continue their surprising ACC run when they visit stumbling Virginia Tech on Saturday.
Purdue at Maryland 4:00 PM ET
Maryland's potent lineup features a gem in freshman Diamond Stone and the 6-11, 255-pound center - already an accomplished player on offense - is becoming a rock at the other end. Stone looks to continue the maturation process of becoming a complete player as the No. 3 Terrapins host No. 16 Purdue for the first time Saturday in a matchup of Big Ten heavyweights.
Stanford at California 4:00 PM ET
California looks to avenge an earlier loss to rival Stanford and remain on the NCAA Tournament bubble with a win Saturday at Haas Pavilion, where the Bears are unbeaten in 13 games this season. Cal is 2-2 without star point guard Tyrone Wallace, who is expected to miss another 2-3 weeks due to a broken right wrist.
Butler at St. John's 4:30 PM ET
St. John's will try to end its 13-game losing streak when it hosts Butler in a Big East matchup on Saturday. St. John's has not recorded a victory since an 84-72 win against Syracuse on Dec. 13, a slide that includes a 20-point loss to Butler last month.
Arizona at Washington 4:30 PM ET
Arizona didn't have any struggles against Washington when they met three weeks ago, and the No. 20 Wildcats will look for a repeat performance when they visit the Huskies on Saturday for another Pac-12 contest. Arizona overpowered Washington 99-67 on Jan. 14 in Tucson without then-leading scorer Allonzo Trier, who fractured a bone in his hand the previous game against USC and has been out ever since, although there's a good chance he returns Saturday.
Auburn at Georgia 5:30 PM ET
Georgia can defend as well as anybody in the nation, the biggest reason the Bulldogs sit in sixth place in the SEC entering Saturday’s home game at Auburn, but more consistent offensive production could position them for even more success. Tuesday’s 69-56 victory over No. 23 South Carolina illustrated how difficult the Bulldogs can be for opponents, as four players scored in double figures and the Bulldogs converted at several key moments to snap a two-game losing streak.
Dayton at George Mason 6:00 PM ET
With wins in 13 of its last 15 games, No. 24 Dayton brings a ferocious defense into Saturday's road matchup against George Mason. The Atlantic-10 rivals sit on opposite ends of the conference standings, as the Flyers are in second place - one game back of VCU - while George Mason is next to last, a game ahead of La Salle.
Mississippi St. at Louisiana State 6:00 PM ET
Freshman forward Ben Simmons seeks his 17th double-double of the season when LSU hosts Mississippi State on Saturday in SEC play. Simmons intends on leaving for the NBA after the season but is striving to lead the Tigers to the NCAA tournament for the second straight campaign.
Oklahoma at Kansas St. 6:00 PM ET
With the top three 3-point shooters in the Big 12, Oklahoma is going to be a nightmare matchup for any opponent, let alone one of the league's bottom feeders. The second-ranked Sooners visit Kansas State on Saturday, about a month after defeating the Wildcats by 10 points.
Arizona State at Washington St. 6:30 PM ET
Arizona State tries to sweep Washington State for the 13th time when it visits Pullman, Wash., on Saturday. The Sun Devils beat the Cougars 84-73 in Tempe, Ariz., on Jan. 14 for their first conference win of the season.
North Carolina at Notre Dame 7:00 PM ET
Top-ranked North Carolina looks to rebound from its third loss of the season when it visits dangerous Notre Dame on Saturday night for an ACC matchup. The Tar Heels saw their 12-game losing streak come to an end at No. 18 Louisville on Monday and face the Fighting Irish, who have won four in a row on their home court.
Tennessee at Arkansas 8:00 PM ET
Arkansas and Tennessee both have recent wins over top-25 teams on their resume, but both still have some work to do to even approach NCAA Tournament bubble status with a month left in the regular season. The Volunteers will try to build on their win over Kentucky earlier in the week when they visit the Razorbacks on Saturday.
Vanderbilt at Mississippi 8:00 PM ET
It took a team meeting and some soul searching, but Vanderbilt may have turned its season around and looks to maintain its newfound momentum when it visits Ole Miss on Saturday. The Commodores were ranked 20th in the preseason USA Today Top 25 Coaches Poll but spent most of the season spinning their wheels before raising some eyebrows with a 77-60 victory over No. 8 Texas A&M on Thursday, snapping a 13-game slide versus ranked opponents dating to 2012.
Baylor at West Virginia 8:00 PM ET
West Virginia's tough stretch - which features three top 15 opponents in eight days - continues Saturday when the No. 12 Mountaineers host No. 13 Baylor. The Mountaineers' win against No. 14 Iowa State kept them tied with Oklahoma atop the Big 12 Conference while Baylor sits a game back in a three-way tie for third.
Indiana at Penn St. 8:00 PM ET
No. 21 Indiana looks to take sole possession of first place in the Big Ten when it hits the road to face Penn State Saturday. The hot-shooting Hoosiers are off to their best start in conference play since the 1992-93 squad began 13-0 and are coming off an impressive 80-67 road win over Michigan to remain in a first-place tie with seventh-ranked Iowa.
Colorado at Oregon St. 8:30 PM ET

With March Madness a month away, Oregon State would appear to be on the wrong side of the NCAA Tournament bubble at the moment with a 4-6 Pac-12 record and an RPI of 55. However, with wins already over four top-50 teams, the Beavers can add another if they can find a way past visiting Colorado on Saturday.

Georgetown at Seton Hall 9:00 PM ET
The hope of a late run at the Big East regular season title will continue for one team, while it will all but end for the other when Georgetown plays at Seton Hall on Saturday night. Both teams are tied for third place, three games behind Villanova with eight games left.
St. Mary's at San Diego 9:00 PM ET
Saint Mary's fell out of first place with a loss to BYU and the No. 25 Gaels aim to return to their winning ways when they visit San Diego in Saturday's West Coast Conference tilt. The 70-59 loss to the Cougars on Thursday marked Saint Mary's first game outside of California this season and the Gaels fell a half-game behind Gonzaga in the conference race.
Wichita St. at Illinois St. 10:00 PM ET
Gregg Marshall is now the winningest coach in Wichita State history and he looks to add another victory to the ledger when the No. 22 Shockers visit Illinois State in Missouri Valley Conference play on Saturday. Marshall's victory total sits at 221 - Ralph Miller won 220 games from 1951-64 - as Wichita State seeks its 13th consecutive win when it faces the Redbirds.
