Preview Roundups
December 23, 2014
Minnesota at Cleveland 7:00 PM ET
It’s reunion week for the Cleveland Cavaliers, and the first one getting to go back to the past is forward Kevin Love. The All-Star will greet his former organization and one or two former teammates when the Cavaliers host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday. Love was traded to Cleveland in a blockbuster deal over the summer that brought former No. 1 overall picks Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett back to the Timberwolves.
New Orleans at Indiana 7:00 PM ET
The New Orleans Pelicans hope to solve an opponent that has had their number in recent years when they travel to Indiana to face the Pacers on Tuesday. The Pacers have won six straight in the series, including four in a row at home. The Pelicans, who have won three of their last four to get back above .500, are coming off a 101-99 victory at Oklahoma City on Sunday.
Boston at Orlando 7:00 PM ET
Things did not go particularly well for the Boston Celtics in their first game after trading Rajon Rondo. The rebuilding Celtics will look for an improved effort out of their three newcomers when they visit the Orlando Magic on Tuesday. Three days after trading Rondo to Dallas, Boston shot 39.8 percent and set a season low for points scored in Sunday's 100-84 setback at Miami.
Chicago at Washington 7:00 PM ET
The Washington Wizards look to get back on track when they host the Chicago Bulls on Tuesday. The Wizards had rattled off six wins in a row and needed one more victory for their best start in franchise history, but dropped a surprising 104-92 decision to the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. Washington hopes to rebound quickly by beating the Bulls for the fourth time in five tries at the Verizon Center and catch the surging Atlanta Hawks in the race for top spot in the Southeast Division.
L.A. Clippers at Atlanta 7:30 PM ET
The Atlanta Hawks are making a statement about the supposed Western Conference superiority, and they'll get a chance to back it up when they host the Los Angeles Clippers on Tuesday. The Hawks improved to 5-2 against the West with a 105-102 win at Dallas on Monday, their fourth straight win and 13th in 14 games. The Clippers have lost five straight road games in the series dating to 2009.
Denver at Brooklyn 7:30 PM ET
The Brooklyn Nets continue to struggle to find a rhythm and they will attempt to post a better effort when they host the Denver Nuggets on Tuesday. Brooklyn has never fully clicked under first-year coach Lionel Hollins and is four games below .500 with the season one-third over. Center Brook Lopez (back) and point guard Deron Williams (calf) could again sit out for the Nets, who host a Nuggets’ team that was routed by Charlotte on Monday.
Philadelphia at Miami 7:30 PM ET
The Miami Heat look to win back-to-back games for the first time in a month when they host the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday. The Heat began their seven-game homestand with two straight losses before bouncing back with a 100-84 victory over the Boston Celtics on Sunday despite the absence of Dwyane Wade, who was out with a bruised knee. "We just figured it would be best to give him some extra rest," coach Erik Spoelstra told reporters. "We'll evaluate him and see how he feels."
Charlotte at Milwaukee 8:00 PM ET
The Charlotte Hornets have a season-best three-game winning streak to boast about and will try to increase it when they visit the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday. Charlotte rolled to an easy 110-82 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Monday as the Hornets continue to rely on standout center Al Jefferson and rising point guard Kemba Walker. Milwaukee has lost two of three games since losing rookie forward Jabari Parker to a season-ending knee injury.
Portland at Oklahoma City 8:00 PM ET
The Portland Trail Blazers are coming to the end of a tough road trip and are hoping LaMarcus Aldridge is back to help them finish it up strong. Aldridge sat out a loss at Houston due to illness Monday but could return when the Trail Blazers wrap up a four-game trip by visiting the Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday. The Thunder have their own ailing All-Star in Kevin Durant, who has missed the last two games with a sprained right ankle.
Dallas at Phoenix 9:00 PM ET
Rajon Rondo’s second game with Dallas was a losing proposition and the Mavericks will attempt to get back on the winning side of the ledger when they visit the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday. Rondo had 13 points and 11 assists for his first double-double since being acquired from the Boston Celtics last week. The Mavericks had a three-game winning streak snapped Monday when they fell 105-102 to the Atlanta Hawks.
Golden State at L.A. Lakers 10:30 PM ET
The Los Angeles Lakers are trying to figure out how to get Kobe Bryant enough rest to get him through the regular season. The Golden State Warriors, who visit the Lakers on Tuesday, have little problem finding rest for their starters thanks to some big leads down the stretch. The Warriors have won 18 of their last 19 games, and the starters should be rested for Tuesday after sitting out the fourth quarter of Monday’s 128-108 win over the Sacramento Kings.
