Preview Roundups
October 30, 2014
Washington at Orlando 7:00 PM ET
The Washington Wizards look to salvage a split of their season-opening Florida swing when they take on the Orlando Magic on Thursday. The Wizards will be closer to full strength than they were in a 107-95 loss at Miami on Wednesday, as big men Nene and DeJuan Blair will return from one-game suspensions. Both teams are missing young stars with Orlando's Victor Oladipo and Washington's Bradley Beal injured.
Detroit at Minnesota 8:00 PM ET
Top pick Andrew Wiggins will make his home debut Thursday when the Minnesota Timberwolves look to rebound from a season-opening loss by hosting the Detroit Pistons. Wiggins was the big prize for Minnesota when it shipped star forward Kevin Love to Cleveland, but he was not much of a factor in a 105-101 loss at Memphis on Wednesday. After being given the starting nod when guard Kevin Martin was sidelined with an ankle injury, Wiggins scored six points in 19 minutes.
New York at Cleveland 8:00 PM ET
The Cleveland Cavaliers and their fans waited four years for LeBron James to come back and sat through the first two days of the regular season without getting a chance to watch the star in action. James will make his return with the Cavaliers when they host the New York Knicks in their season opener on Thursday. James reached the finals four times and won a pair of championships with the Miami Heat but decided to come home to Northeast Ohio.
Utah at Dallas 8:30 PM ET
Chandler Parsons hopes his second game as a member of Dallas goes much better than his first when the Mavericks host the Utah Jazz on Thursday. Parsons was signed to a three-year, $46 million free-agent deal in the offseason but suffered through a 2-of-10 shooting performance and scored only five points in Dallas’ season-opening loss to the San Antonio Spurs. “It sucks to play like that on the first game but it’s only one of 82 games,” Parsons told reporters.
Oklahoma City at L.A. Clippers 10:30 PM ET
The Oklahoma City Thunder are hoping their second game without the NBA’s reigning Most Valuable Player goes better than the first when they take on the host Los Angeles Clippers on Thursday. Thunder forward Kevin Durant remains sidelined with a broken foot and Oklahoma City could have used him in Wednesday’s season-opening loss to the Portland Trail Blazers. The Thunder fell flat in the fourth quarter of that game while getting outscored 31-12 down the stretch of the 17-point loss.
