Preview Roundups
April 19, 2014
Brooklyn at Toronto 12:30 PM ET
The Toronto Raptors host a playoff game for the first time in six years when they open a best-of-seven series Saturday against the Brooklyn Nets in a matchup of youth versus experience. After a slow start, Toronto went 42-22 over the final four-plus months of the season to record a franchise record in victories and storm to the Atlantic Division crown - its first since 2006-07. The Raptors also opened play against the Nets that season, who won the series in six games.
Golden State at L.A. Clippers 3:30 PM ET
The Golden State Warriors went into the playoffs as the No. 6 seed last season and knocked off the third-seeded Denver Nuggets. They will be attempting to turn the same trick again this spring, though the competition will be different when the Warriors visit the third-seeded Los Angeles Clippers in the opener of a seven-game series on Saturday. The Clippers are primed for a deep playoff run and brought in coach Doc Rivers in part for his experience in the postseason.
Atlanta at Indiana 7:00 PM ET
The Indiana Pacers limped through the last six weeks of the regular season but still managed to outlast the Miami Heat and earn the top seed in the postseason. The Hawks went through their own swoon in March but picked up the pace down the stretch and earned the No. 8 seed, giving them a date at the Pacers on Saturday for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference playoffs. Indiana has been looking ahead to the postseason since a tough exit last spring.
Memphis at Oklahoma City 9:30 PM ET
The Memphis Grizzlies eliminated an Oklahoma City team missing Russell Westbrook from last season’s playoffs and take aim at stunning the host Thunder again when the first-round series opens on Saturday. Memphis took the Western Conference semifinals in five games last season as Westbrook’s knee injury turned Kevin Durant into a one-man gang. The seventh-seeded Grizzles won their final five games of the regular season while the second-seeded Thunder were 4-4 over their final eight games.
