Preview Roundups
February 02, 2015
Philadelphia at Cleveland 7:00 PM ET
The Philadelphia 76ers gave the Atlanta Hawks all they could handle on Saturday and will take another crack at ending a long winning streak when they visit the Cleveland Cavaliers on Monday. The Cavaliers have won 10 straight after surviving Kevin Love’s return to Minnesota and LeBron James’ health is the biggest reason for their success. James missed the last meeting with the 76ers – a 95-92 Philadelphia win on Jan. 5 – but is dominating of late.
Charlotte at Washington 7:00 PM ET
The Washington Wizards have become a .500 team since their 19-6 start and they’ll try to avoid losing three straight when they host the Charlotte Hornets on Monday night. The Wizards played their third overtime game in 11 days Saturday night against the Toronto Raptors and lost for the fourth time in the last six. Wizards leading scorer and assist man John Wall has been battling migraines and a sore ankle recently and said after the Toronto game he may sit out against Charlotte.
L.A. Clippers at Brooklyn 7:30 PM ET
The Los Angeles Clippers annihilated Brooklyn by 39 points just 12 days ago and seek another convincing victory when they visit the Nets on Monday. The easy 123-84 victory for Los Angeles represented a down point for Brooklyn, which has lost four straight and 12 of its last 14 entering the rematch. The Clippers trounced the San Antonio Spurs 105-85 on Saturday and have won seven of their last eight games.
Milwaukee at Toronto 7:30 PM ET
Toronto looks to keep alive a pair of streaks when it takes on Milwaukee in the opener of a five-game homestand Monday. The Raptors have won six straight after a 120-116 victory at Washington on Saturday and have also won six in a row over the Bucks, including a 42-point rout in Toronto earlier this season. One trend Toronto may want to end is its tendency to play in overtime, as each of its last two games have lasted an extra five minutes and the squad leads the NBA with six OT games.
Atlanta at New Orleans 8:00 PM ET
The Atlanta Hawks got a couple of scares over the weekend but made it through with their winning streak intact and the best record in the NBA to the right of their name in the standings. The Hawks just completed the best month in NBA history and will try to make it 20 straight victories when they open February by visiting the New Orleans Pelicans on Monday. The Pelicans have taken five of their last six and are thriving at home.
Orlando at Oklahoma City 8:00 PM ET
The Oklahoma City Thunder seemed ready to climb into playoff position in the Western Conference in mid January after winning four straight, but have dropped four of five games since. The Thunder look to turn things around with seven of the next 10 on their home court, starting with a visit from the struggling Orlando Magic on Monday night. Oklahoma City posted 127 points on Jan. 18 in a victory at the Magic, who have lost a season-high eight straight contests and 14 of their last 16.
Minnesota at Dallas 8:30 PM ET
While Minnesota welcomes back its star point guard, Dallas is prepared to press on without its own when the teams meet in Texas on Monday. Ricky Rubio, who has missed 42 games with an ankle injury, is expected to return for the Timberwolves, who have recently welcomed back shooting guard Kevin Martin and center Nikola Pekovic from long layoffs. Meanwhile, the Mavericks wait on the condition of Rajon Rondo, who left Saturday's 108-93 win in Orlando after taking a vicious knee to the face.
Memphis at Phoenix 9:00 PM ET
The red-hot Memphis Grizzlies look to register their seventh consecutive victory when they visit the Phoenix Suns on Monday. Memphis possesses the second-best record in the Western Conference, has a solid 14-7 road mark and delivered an impressive 85-74 home win over the Oklahoma City Thunder on Saturday. Phoenix has won 16 of its last 23 games but suffered one of the defeats on Saturday when a soft second half led to a 106-87 road loss against the Golden State Warriors.
