Preview Roundups
September 05, 2016
Toronto at NY Yankees 1:05 PM ET
The New York Yankees finally found a way to score on Sunday and ended up winning their most important game of the season up to that point. The host Yankees will kick off their next most important series of the season as they try to keep their wild-card hopes alive in the opener of a three-game series against the American League East-leading Toronto Blue Jays on Monday.
Baltimore at Tampa Bay 1:10 PM ET
The Baltimore Orioles look to continue their success in the season series when they visit the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday afternoon to begin a three-game set. The Orioles could not finish off a sweep against the New York Yankees at home on Sunday after a 5-2 loss, but have had their way versus the Rays in 2016 -- winning nine of 12 games and launching 19 homers.
Chi. Cubs at Milwaukee 1:10 PM ET

The Milwaukee Brewers won’t be in the postseason this year, but they’re doing their best to make things difficult for playoff contenders. After sweeping a three-game series from wild-card hopeful Pittsburgh over the weekend, the Brewers turn their attention to the visiting Chicago Cubs on Monday.

NY Mets at Cincinnati 1:10 PM ET
After concluding a 7-3 homestand with a pair of victories over National League East-leading Washington, the New York Mets begin a nine-game road trip Monday afternoon when they open a three-game series against the Cincinnati Reds. Despite the triumphs over Washington, the Mets still trail their rival by 8 1/2 games, but they pulled within one of St. Louis for the NL's second wild card.
Philadelphia at Miami 1:10 PM ET
The Miami Marlins hung around the National League wild card race until the end of August but appear to be fading out of the picture. The Marlins will try to get back to .500 and snap a three-game slide when they host the opener of a three-game series against the struggling Philadelphia Phillies on Monday.
Kansas City at Minnesota 2:10 PM ET
The Kansas City Royals have cooled off since a sizzling 18-4 run that pulled them back into playoff contention, but the upcoming schedule gives them a chance to stay in the race. The Royals begin a stretch of 14 straight contests against teams with losing records when they visit the major league-worst Minnesota Twins on Monday to open a three-game series.
LA Angels at Oakland 4:05 PM ET
The bottom two teams in the American League West square off when the Los Angeles Angels visit the Oakland Athletics for a three-game series beginning Monday afternoon. Los Angeles is on a roll with seven victories in its last eight contests to move three games ahead of the cellar-dwelling Athletics.
Atlanta at Washington 4:05 PM ET
The Washington Nationals hope a return home helps awaken their offense as they kick off a 10-game stretch at Nationals Park on Monday with the opener of a three-game series against the Atlanta Braves. Washington began a six-game road trip with four straight victories before suffering back-to-back losses to the Mets in New York, scoring one run in each setback while crossing the plate more than four times just once in its last 10 contests.
St. Louis at Pittsburgh 4:05 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Pirates might be looking at their best shot to stay in the National League wild card race after a tough week dropped them to the brink of contention. The Pirates will try to make up some ground in head-to-head competition when they host the St. Louis Cardinals in the opener of a three-game series on Monday.
Detroit at Chi. White Sox 4:10 PM ET
Justin Verlander and Chris Sale will match up for the second time in six days when the Detroit Tigers visit the Chicago White Sox on Monday afternoon to kick off a three-game series. The Tigers, tied with Baltimore for the second wild card, swept the White Sox last week in a three-game set at Detroit.
Texas at Seattle 4:10 PM ET
A pair of aces will be looking to rebound from rocky outings when Cole Hamels and the visiting Texas Rangers face Felix Hernandez and the Seattle Mariners on Monday afternoon in the opener of a four-game series. The Mariners are fading from the postseason picture and must find a way to turn it around against the Rangers, who swept Seattle in a three-game set last week.
San Francisco at Colorado 4:10 PM ET
The San Francisco Giants will try to get their dormant bats going in Coors Field when they begin a three-game series at the Colorado Rockies on Monday. The Giants were held scoreless over the final eight frames of a 13-inning setback at the Chicago Cubs on Sunday and have averaged 2.8 runs over a 2-4 stretch since walloping Atlanta by a 13-4 margin.
Boston at San Diego 4:40 PM ET
Drew Pomeranz returns to spacious Petco Park on Monday for the first time since the San Diego Padres traded the left-hander to the Boston Red Sox on July 14. After initially stumbling out of the gate with his new team, Pomeranz looks to show his former one a thing or two when the clubs open a three-game interleague series.
Houston at Cleveland 7:10 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians look to ride the momentum of an emotional comeback victory and continue their perfect homestand on Monday, when they open a four-game series against the Houston Astros. The American League Central-leading Indians, who scored three runs in the ninth inning of a 6-5 triumph over Miami on Sunday, have won each of the first six contests of their 10-game stretch at Progressive Field and 33 of their last 44 in front of the home fans.
Arizona at LA Dodgers 8:10 PM ET
The Arizona Diamondbacks let the cat out of the bag last week by announcing high-priced acquisition Zack Greinke will remain with the club for the rest of the season. Signed to a six-year, $206.5 million deal in the offseason, Greinke will face his former team on Monday as the Diamondbacks begin the final leg of an eight-game road trip with the opener of a three-game series versus the Los Angeles Dodgers.
