August 24, 2016
Houston at Pittsburgh 12:35 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Pirates really needed a strong performance on both sides of the ball to turn the momentum around and got just that in a 7-1 victory on Tuesday that snapped a four-game slide. The Pirates will try to make it two consecutive wins to keep pace in the National League wild card race when they host the Houston Astros in the rubber match of the three-game interleague series on Wednesday.
Colorado at Milwaukee 2:10 PM ET
The Colorado Rockies have lost the first two contests of their six-game road trip and are threatening to completely fall out of the National League wild-card race. The Rockies have lost 13 of their last 19 contests and stand seven games behind St. Louis for the second wild card entering Wednesday's series finale against the host Milwaukee Brewers.
Cleveland at Oakland 3:35 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians look to avoid their first series loss since the first week of the month when they visit the Oakland Athletics on Wednesday afternoon for the rubber match of their three-game set. The American League Central-leading Indians were limited to one run in each of the first two contests, posting a 1-0 victory in the series opener before suffering a 9-1 defeat Tuesday.
NY Yankees at Seattle 3:40 PM ET
Former Japanese teammates Masahiro Tanaka and Hisashi Iwakuma square off for the second time as major leaguers when the New York Yankees complete a three-game series against the host Seattle Mariners with the rubber match on Wednesday afternoon. Tanaka got the better of his mentor on April 17, when New York posted a 4-3 victory over the Mariners at Yankee Stadium.
Chi. Cubs at San Diego 3:40 PM ET
Less than 24 hours after becoming the first team in the major leagues to reach the 80-win plateau, the Chicago Cubs attempt to complete a sweep when they visit the San Diego Padres on Wednesday afternoon for the finale of their three-game set. Chicago, which owns a 13 1/2-game lead over St. Louis in the National League Central, posted a 5-1 triumph in the series opener and recorded a 5-3 victory Tuesday as Kris Bryant and Addison Russell each homered and drove in two runs.
Baltimore at Washington 7:05 PM ET
The Washington Nationals did not have much success against their Beltway Series rival on the road but will get another chance in their own building when the Baltimore Orioles visit to begin the second half of the home-and-home set on Wednesday. The Orioles are fighting off a challenge for the second American League wild card spot as they open a five-game road trip.
LA Angels at Toronto 7:07 PM ET
A return to the Rogers Centre got the Toronto Blue Jays back on track while the Los Angeles Angels continue to remain off the rails on the road this season. The Blue Jays will vie for their sixth straight victory over the Angels and hope to hand their ailing adversary a 12th consecutive road loss on Wednesday when the clubs play the second contest of their three-game set.
Boston at Tampa Bay 7:10 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox are surging at just the right time and have moved a season-high 17 games over .500 while remaining tied for first place in the American League East. The Red Sox will try to clinch a series win when they visit the Tampa Bay Rays for the third of a four-game series on Wednesday.
Kansas City at Miami 7:10 PM ET
Miami Marlins right-hander Jose Fernandez hopes a return to South Beach will be just what doctor ordered in a bid to cure what has become his worst stretch of the season. Fernandez looks to snap a four-game winless run on Wednesday as the Marlins attempt to even their three-game home series against the red-hot Kansas City Royals.
Texas at Cincinnati 7:10 PM ET
With a showdown against another American League heavyweight looming, the Texas Rangers will try to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat when they wrap up a two-game interleague series at the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday. The Rangers were blanked for the third time in nine games with Tuesday's 3-0 loss and have been outscored 19-6 during the three-game skid.
Philadelphia at Chi. White Sox 8:10 PM ET
Jose Abreu and the Chicago White Sox are enjoying quite the surge of late while the Philadelphia Phillies have been rendered powerless by an ailing pitching staff. With homers in three straight contests, Abreu looks to keep the good times rolling on Wednesday as the teams conclude their abbreviated two-game interleague series at U.S. Cellular Field.
Detroit at Minnesota 8:10 PM ET
With Justin Upton heating up and recent acquisition Erick Aybar settling in at shortstop, the Detroit Tigers are showing some serious thump in the middle of their lineup. The Tigers have amassed 18 runs and 24 hits in back-to-back victories and look to send the host Minnesota Twins to their sixth consecutive defeat Wednesday night.
NY Mets at St. Louis 8:15 PM ET
Jacob deGrom will look to rebound from a rare clunker as the visiting New York Mets continue their three-game series at the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday night. New York ran its winning streak to three games with a 7-4 victory in the series opener to draw within 3 1/2 games of St. Louis for the second wild card.
Atlanta at Arizona 9:40 PM ET
Matt Kemp got off to a slow start after joining the Atlanta Braves, but he delivered the decisive hit and collected three RBIs in their latest victory. Kemp looks to extend his hitting streak to nine games on Wednesday, when Atlanta visits the Arizona Diamondbacks for the third contest of their four-game series.
San Francisco at LA Dodgers 10:10 PM ET
Starting pitcher Rich Hill makes his long-awaited Los Angeles debut on Wednesday as the Dodgers continue their three-game set against the visiting San Francisco Giants, who dropped the series opener 9-5 on Tuesday. Expectations are high for the veteran left-hander, who has been on the disabled list with a lingering left middle finger blister since being acquired from Oakland on Aug. 1.
