Preview Roundups
August 01, 2016
Minnesota at Cleveland 7:10 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians have been at the center of the trade deadline action, grabbing the best reliever left on the market while just missing out on one of the best bats. The American League Central-leading Indians will welcome Andrew Miller when they host the last-place Minnesota Twins in the opener of a four-game series on Monday.
Kansas City at Tampa Bay 7:10 PM ET
The Tampa Bay Rays attempt to stretch their winning streak to a season-high five games when they host the fading Kansas City Royals on Monday for the first of four contests. The Rays swept three from the New York Yankees over the weekend and are 8-7 since the All-Star break, while Kansas City has lost four in a row and eight of nine to fall six games under .500.
NY Yankees at NY Mets 7:10 PM ET
The New York Mets’ and the New York Yankees’ respective front offices have both been working hard this weekend with apparently opposite goals, though one team is having more success than the other. The Yankees will take their new-look bullpen across town for the opener of a four-game, home-and-home interleague series on Monday.
Miami at Chi. Cubs 8:05 PM ET
Less than 24 hours after posting an unlikely comeback victory, the major league-leading Chicago Cubs continue their successful homestand Monday with the opener of a three-game series against the Miami Marlins. Chicago, which owns a 7 1/2-game lead over St. Louis in the National League Central, yielded a two-run homer in each of the first three frames of Sunday's contest versus Seattle but rallied to post a 7-6 triumph — scoring three runs in the bottom of the ninth, including the game-tyer on a
Toronto at Houston 8:10 PM ET
The American League wild card race intensifies on the first day of August when the Toronto Blue Jays visit the Houston Astros on Monday for the first of four big games. The teams will clash hours after the trade deadline, which could feature some late moves for a pair of teams looking to improve their chances at a second straight playoff berth.
Washington at Arizona 9:40 PM ET
In the midst of a 14-game stretch during which they play 11 times against two of the four teams with the best records in the major leagues, the Washington Nationals probably don't mind facing a cellar dweller that struggles to win at home. The Nationals begin the last leg of their nine-game road trip Monday, when they visit the Arizona Diamondbacks for the opener of a three-game series.
Boston at Seattle 10:10 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox look to begin August stronger than they ended July when they visit the Seattle Mariners on Monday for the opener of a four-game series. Boston lost five of six contests before concluding the fourth month of the season with a 5-3 triumph over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday, earning a split of the four-game set that kicked off the team's 11-game West Coast trip.
Milwaukee at San Diego 10:10 PM ET
Jonathan Lucroy exercised his limited no-trade clause over the weekend to nix a deal to Cleveland, but speculation remains rampant he won’t be a member of the Milwaukee Brewers much longer. The Brewers haven't let such talk about their two-time All-Star catcher affect their play recently, however, and they'll attempt to notch a season-best fifth straight victory Monday as they meet they meet the host San Diego Padres for the opener of a three-game series.
