Preview Roundups
May 30, 2016
Chi. White Sox at NY Mets 1:10 PM ET
The Chicago White Sox hope to take advantage of a quick turnaround for their opponents and end their six-game losing streak when they continue their nine-game road trip with the opener of a three-game interleague set against the New York Mets on Monday afternoon. Chicago has dropped from first to third place in the American League Central thanks to both its current skid and a 4-14 record since May 10.
San Francisco at Atlanta 1:10 PM ET
No team in baseball has won more often this month than the San Francisco Giants, who open a four-game road series Monday against the Atlanta Braves looking for their 21st victory – which would match last May’s total. San Francisco is 20-7 this month after winning the final two games of a three-game set at Colorado, riding a string of 15 victories in its last 17 contests to first place in the National League West.
Boston at Baltimore 1:35 PM ET
The Boston Red Sox and the Baltimore Orioles are battling for the top spot in an American League East Division that is getting tighter by the week. The Red Sox will try to maintain their slim one-game edge over the Orioles when they visit Baltimore on Monday in the opener of a four-game series.
St. Louis at Milwaukee 2:10 PM ET
Jonathan Lucroy has come alive at the plate for the Milwaukee Brewers, who go for their sixth victory in seven contests when they open a three-game set against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night. Lucroy went 6-for-11 with nine RBIs as Milwaukee took two of three games from the Cincinnati Reds over the weekend.
Minnesota at Oakland 4:05 PM ET
Both the Minnesota Twins and Oakland Athletics have big hills to climb in their respective division races, but at least they are going in the right direction entering Monday's opener of a three-game series in Oakland. Following an abysmal 7-25 stretch, the Twins have managed to win four in a row - tying a season high - by riding the power bats of Joe Mauer and Miguel Sano.
Houston at Arizona 4:10 PM ET
Michael Bourn enjoyed some of the finest years of his career with the Houston Astros, earning the first of two All-Star nods in 2010 thanks in part to his ability to steal bases and set the table near the top of the order. The Houston native is off to a red-hot start 10 games into his tenure with the Arizona Diamondbacks, and he'll try to help his new team pull off a third straight win Monday as the Astros visit for the opener of four-game, home-and-home interleague series.
San Diego at Seattle 4:10 PM ET
After faltering at home against one last-place team, the Seattle Mariners will try to right the ship versus another when they open a four-game, home-and-home interleague series with the visiting San Diego Padres on Monday. Following a 6-1 surge, the Mariners dropped three straight over the weekend - two by one run - against Minnesota and tumbled out of first place in the American League West.
Cincinnati at Colorado 4:10 PM ET
Despite their losing record at the moment, the Colorado Rockies have displayed an ability to compete with some of the best teams in baseball recently, going 7-8 during a 15-game run against five clubs with winning records - including two division leaders. The Rockies begin what should be a much easier seven-game stretch Monday, however, as they host the opener of a four-game series against the Cincinnati Reds.
LA Dodgers at Chi. Cubs 5:05 PM ET
The Chicago Cubs attempt to extend their winning streak to six contests as they continue their 10-game homestand Monday with the opener of a four-game set against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Chicago has answered losing four of five by totaling 21 runs in back-to-back triumphs at St. Louis before outscoring Philadelphia 17-5 during a three-game sweep at Wrigley Field.
Texas at Cleveland 6:10 PM ET
The Cleveland Indians lost the top spot in the American League Central with a tough finish over the weekend and are staring at another strong team. The Indians will try to get back to the top of the Central at the expense of the AL West-leading Texas Rangers when they host the opener of a three-game series on Monday.
Washington at Philadelphia 7:05 PM ET
The Washington Nationals will be out for revenge when they kick off a nine-game road trip at the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday. Washington opened the season with 14 victories in its first 18 games before absorbing a three-game sweep at home by the Phillies in which it scored a total of three runs and was shut out twice.
NY Yankees at Toronto 7:07 PM ET
The New York Yankees look to carry the momentum from a milestone moment in franchise history when they continue a 10-game road trip at the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night. Starlin Castro's two-run homer lifted the Yankees to a 2-1 victory at Tampa Bay on Sunday -- the first time since 1914 that New York won a game with just one hit.
Pittsburgh at Miami 7:10 PM ET
The Pittsburgh Pirates were cruising on offense until the weekend, when they totaled four runs in back-to-back losses at the Texas Rangers. The Pirates will try to get the bats moving again when they continue the road trip by visiting the Miami Marlins on Monday in the opener of a four-game series.
Tampa Bay at Kansas City 8:15 PM ET
The Kansas City Royals have been forced to battle through several key injuries, but they are back on top in the American League Central as the Tampa Bay Rays visit on Monday for the opener of a three-game series. Eric Hosmer went 8-for-13 with seven RBIs as the Royals rallied three times over the weekend to sweep the Chicago White Sox, improving to 10-3 in their last 13 contests.
Detroit at LA Angels 9:05 PM ET
The last time Justin Verlander faced the Los Angeles Angels, the six-time All-Star took a no-hitter into the ninth inning and settled for a one-hit shutout on Aug. 26, 2015. Verlander will aim for similar results Monday as the Detroit Tigers visit the Angels for the opener of a three-game series.
