ST. PAUL, Minn. -- John Tortorella asked his young Columbus Blue Jackets to revel in the atmosphere of Saturday's highly anticipated matchup with the Minnesota Wild.

The two hottest teams in the NHL offered rare hype for a midseason game in December. Columbus entered with a 14-game win streak and Minnesota brought a string of 12 in a row into the contest.

The Blue Jackets are left to challenge the 1993 Pittsburgh Penguins' record of 17 consecutive victories.

Cam Atkinson scored twice and Sergei Bobrovsky made 30 saves for Columbus in a 4-2 victory over the Wild on Saturday.

"I'm happy for the guys," said Tortorella, the Blue Jackets' second-year coach. "I'm proud of our team and the way they've handled themselves through all this."

Bobrovsky won his last 13 starts and allowed two goals or fewer in 11 games during that span.

Defensemen Jack Johnson and Seth Jones also scored for Columbus, which hasn't lost since Nov. 26 in overtime at Florida. Brandon Saad added two assists for the Blue Jackets, who are two games away from tying the longest win streak in NHL history.

"It's pretty hard to fathom," Saad said. "What a team that was (for Pittsburgh in 1993) and we all know (where the streak's) at and we want to take over. We're continuing one game at a time. We've got some tough tests ahead of us in our home building, but this is definitely fun to be a part of."

Mikael Granlund and Jason Zucker scored for Minnesota, which saw their franchise-record streak end. Wild goaltender Devan Dubnyk allowed four goals on 25 shots.

"We are all ticked off in there and everything," Minnesota coach Bruce Boudreau said. "But if we sit back and look at the whole picture, what Columbus is doing is really amazing. But what we did was pretty good too. As long as we can get back to the way we were playing, then we'll continue to be successful. If we play like run and gun we're not."

The two teams downplayed the meeting, which was the first in NHL history between teams with active win streaks of 12 or more games, according to STATS. Tortorella wanted his team to enjoy the moment but agreed with the Wild's public approach of saying it was just another regular-season game.

The environment matched the hype, though, with a packed house and the intensity clear from the players' perspective. It was Minnesota's largest crowd of the season and the eighth-largest in team history.

"You love playing in games like this," Columbus defenseman Ryan Murray said. "The building right off the bat, you could tell everyone's ready to go, the fans are going nuts, the players are loving it. You have those two fights back to back. That's what hockey is. That's exactly why you play the game."

In the second period, Minnesota's Chris Stewart and Blue Jackets forward Josh Anderson talked for a few moments before dropping the gloves. As Stewart and Anderson were being sent to the penalty box, Wild defenseman Matt Dumba and Columbus' Matt Calvert started another fight -- drawing matching game misconducts.

"Great stuff by our team," Tortorellla said of the two fights. "I thought our bench was 10-feet tall after that."

The Blue Jackets then scored twice within 76 seconds after the two fights ended. Johnson ripped a shot high past Dubnyk and Atkinson scored his second of the game 15 seconds later, tapping home a centering pass from Ryan Murray.

Atkinson has nine goals and seven assists in his past 12 games.

"It's really special what we're doing here and we got the right group of guys to do it with," Atkinson said. "Everybody's positive in the room, we're all having a bunch of fun and tonight was a lot of fun playing in that atmosphere. We played a good game."

Dubnyk started the season by going 27 games without allowing four goals or more. He's now allowed at least four in each of the past two games.

"That was a great stretch," Dubnyk said. "It's tough to talk about right now. I don't think anybody's going to sit here and pat ourselves on the back. Like I said before, winning's fun, but this one stings, and we'll take this, and it was a memorable streak, and it's going to be important for us to get back to our winning ways here."
