PHILADELPHIA -- Franchise history was made and ended on Monday at Wells Fargo Center.

Shayne Gostisbehere did the honors with a pair of banner goals for the Philadelphia Flyers, who squashed the Tampa Bay Lightning's team-record nine-game winning streak with a 4-2 victory.

Gostisbehere's two markers gives him 14 overall, breaking Behn Wilson's record for most goals in a season by a Philadelphia rookie defenseman set in 1978-79, when he recorded 13. Earlier in the season, Gostisbehere set the point-streak record by a Flyers rookie at 15 games.

"It's a tremendous honor," Gostisbehere said. "There's a lot of history, especially with our team. It's a good feeling."

Gostisbehere also helped the Flyers (31-23-11) finish their pivotal six-game homestand 5-1-0 and climb within two points of the Detroit Red Wings for the Eastern Conference's final wild-card spot.

"It's huge for us to get points in every game we're playing right now," Gostisbehere said. "Every game is a playoff game to us. It's very important to get those points."

While he made franchise history, he ended it for the Lightning (39-23-4).

Tampa Bay, which is 20-6-0 in its last 26 games, remains in first place of the Eastern Conference's Atlantic Division, but the historic win streak was not an excuse for its performance in Philadelphia.

Backup goalie Andrei Vasilevskiy did everything to keep the Lightning afloat by stopping 36 shots. Eventually, he succumbed to the Flyers' pressure.

"We had one guy show up tonight and it was (Vasilevskiy)," Tampa Bay coach Jon Cooper said. "You know what, Slater Koekkoek coming in here and playing his fifth game this year, I thought in a tough situation, he played really well. But after that, that was it."

The Lightning committed five penalties and were outshot 40-18 as Flyers goaltender Steve Mason needed to make just 16 saves for the win.

"We got outplayed, outworked, outcompeted, outclassed, out-everything, so for 60 minutes, they were worthy and deserving of winning that game," Cooper said. "But we did pick up 18 of a possible 20 (points) in our last 10."

Gostisbehere broke a 1-1 tie at 7:21 of the third period with a power-play goal assisted by Claude Giroux and Mark Streit.

"We had contributions from everybody in the lineup," Philadelphia coach Dave Hakstol said. "Those contributions were consistent from start to finish."

Giroux finished with two assists after tallying another on Brayden Schenn's goal just over six minutes later to hand Philadelphia a 3-1 lead.

Tampa Bay trimmed the deficit with a goal by Vladislav Namestnikov, but the Flyers iced the game on Wayne Simmonds' empty-netter in the final minute.

"It was a real good team effort tonight," Hakstol said, "and the guys should enjoy that for a few minutes."

In the opening stanza, the Lightning got on the board first with the help of a friendly bounce. Koekkoek whipped a shot into traffic that ricocheted off a Philadelphia skate directly to a pouncing Ondrej Palat for a point-blank snap shot and 1-0 lead at 4:07.

After going scoreless in the first period, the Flyers increased the pressure to the point in which they had a 29-6 lead in shots. On their 30th attempt, Philadelphia finally knotted the score with just over three minutes left in the frame on Gostisbehere's 13th goal of the season.

A shot in deep by Michael Raffl trickled off the foot of Namestnikov and right to Gostisbehere, who put it home on a wide-open net.

"He's a heck of a player out there," Koekkoek said of Gostisbehere. "He killed us tonight and he's killing a lot of teams lately."

Despite being outshot 31-9, the Lightning weathered the storm and entered second intermission tied 1-1.

That was until Gostisbehere struck again for history and a Flyers win.

"Very tired of talking about (Gostisbehere)," Giroux joked. "No, he's clutch and that's what he does."
