OTTAWA -- Rookie center Jack Eichel scored two goals, including the winner at 1:08 of the third period, to help the Buffalo Sabres snap a three-game losing streak with a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday at Canadian Tire Centre.

The win made a triumphant return to Ottawa for Sabres goalie Robin Lehner, who spent five seasons with the Senators before being traded to Buffalo.

Lehner stopped 34 shots while Senators goalie Craig Anderson made 19 saves.

Senators center Jean-Gabriel Pageau scored at the final buzzer but the clock had ticked down to zero.

Winger Evander Kane had the other Buffalo goal while defenseman Erik Karlsson and winger Bobby Ryan replied for the Senators, who failed to build on Sunday's 3-0 victory over the New York Rangers.

Sabres winger Zemgus Girgensons started the play on the winner, flipping the puck in from outside the blue line. Anderson had a hard time handling it, and Eichel tapped it in the open net when Senators winger Chris Neil collided with his goalie.

The teams were tied 2-2 after two periods, with the Sabres holding a 20-14 edge in shots.

Ryan put the Senators ahead with his fifth goal in six games at 10:03 of the second, flipping the puck in the open side after Lehner stopped a point shot by Senators defensemen Cody Ceci. The goal was Ryan's 18th of the season.

A little more than three minutes later, Eichel scored his first of the night by taking a feed from Lehner, racing down the ice to beat defenseman Jared Cowen, then tucking the puck in on a wraparound.

The Senators didn't test Lehner until the 6:41 mark of the game, and one second later Karlsson opened the scoring by firing in the rebound of Neil's shot for his 11th of the season. A coach's challenge by the Sabres proved fruitless, as it was ruled Senators center Mika Zibanejad had not interfered with Lehner.

The Sabres tied the game less than five minutes later when Kane scored his 11th from behind the Ottawa goal line.

Cowen miscalculated his angle when trying to bank a pass off the back boards, and the puck got caught up in the mesh. Anderson tried to knock it off but failed, while Kane rushed in and had more success, bouncing the puck up and in off the Ottawa goalie.

NOTES: Senators D Marc Methot missed his fifth straight game with a lower-body injury but should return right after the all-star break, as coach Dave Cameron was still holding out hope he would play against the Sabres following the morning skate. ...
