Capitals 2, Senators 1: Captain Alex Ovechkin scored the go-ahead goal 49 seconds after rookie Evgeny Kuznetsov's tying tally as Washington ended its five-game road losing streak (0-3-2).

Ovechkin knocked a puck out of mid-air and past Robin Lehner for his 10th goal in nine games to move into a tie with fellow All-Star Rick Nash of the New York Rangers for the league lead with 32. Braden Holtby allowed his first regulation goal in four games but made 25 saves as the Capitals ended their four-game skid in Ottawa.

Kyle Turris scored the lone goal for the struggling Senators, who lost for the ninth time in 13 games (4-7-2). Lehner, making his fourth straight start in place of the injured Craig Anderson, stopped 27 shots.

Ottawa, which had won seven of its previous eight against Washington, went ahead at the 12:15 mark of the second period. Mark Stone set up Turris, who ripped a shot into the top corner of the net for his 10th tally.

The lead was short-lived as Kuznetsov corralled the rebound of defenseman Brooks Orpik's point shot and converted into an open net 73 seconds later. The Capitals quickly went ahead as Jay Beagle's backhander into the crease popped into the air and Ovechkin batted it into the net with 5:43 left in the period - a goal upheld upon video review.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Senators general manager Bryan Murray and former teammates Daniel Alfredsson and Wade Redden presented D Chris Phillips with jersey No. 1,179 during a pregame ceremony to commemorate the veteran's franchise record for games played, breaking the mark previously held by Alfredsson (1,178). ...Ovechkin needs one goal to tie Theo Fleury (455) for 55th place on the all-time list. ...
