Flames 4, Oilers 1: Rookie Johnny Gaudreau scored twice in a 16-second span during the first period as host Calgary built an early three-goal lead and went on to extend Edmonton’s winless streak to nine games.

Curtis Glencross recorded a goal and an assist while Joe Colborne added his first tally of the season, which ignited a three-goal outburst in 1:40 that was capped by Gaudreau's pair. Jonas Hiller turned aside 26 shots to improve to 2-0-1 in his last three decisions.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored his 10th goal of the season for the Oilers, who are 1-14-6 in their last 21 contests and 0-7-2 in the past nine. Viktor Fasth allowed three goals on six shots before Ben Scrivens came on to make 20 saves for Edmonton, which visits Calgary again on Wednesday.

Colborne opened the scoring 7:08 into the game, tracking down a rebound on the right side of the net and sliding the puck in off Fasth. Gaudreau went in alone after a turnover to score on a backhander at 8:32 before defenseman TJ Brodie’s stretch pass hit Jiri Hudler’s stick on its way to Gaudreau, who lost the puck before it squirted by Fasth for a 3-0 lead.

Calgary managed only three shots in the second period, but Hiller stepped up to make 13 saves and keep the lead at three. Nugent-Hopkins gave the Oilers life when he deflected a shot by defenseman Justin Schultz past Hiller 4:23 into the third, but Glencross converted a crossing pass from Matt Stajan with 9:43 to go.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Gaudreau has recorded six goals in his last three contests, while Hudler’s assist gave him eight points in as many games. … Edmonton is 2-for-43 on the power play away from home this season after failing on five opportunities Saturday and has not scored with the man advantage on the road since Nov. 6 at Boston. … Calgary C Josh Jooris missed his second straight game with an upper-body injury.
