Flames 4, Kings 3 (OT): Rookie Johnny Gaudreau erased a three-goal deficit with a natural hat trick and captain Mark Giordano scored 4:07 into overtime as visiting Calgary halted its eight-game slide (0-7-1) in spectacular fashion.

After Gaudreau tallied twice with Jonas Hiller pulled for an extra attacker in the final 2:12 of the third period, Giordano skated down the left side and cut to the net with Jeff Carter ineffectively checking him before backhanding the puck around Jonathan Quick. Giordano added an assist, fellow defenseman Dennis Wideman and Jiri Hudler notched two apiece and Hiller made 31 saves as the Flames posted their first win since edging Colorado in overtime on Dec. 4.

Trevor Lewis, Marian Gaborik and blue-liner Jamie McBain scored for the Kings, who fell to 2-1-0 on their four-game homestand. Justin Williams registered a pair of assists and Quick turned aside 24 shots.

Los Angeles took the lead less than 2 1/2 minutes into the contest as Lewis carried the puck down the right wing and unleashed a shot from the outer edge of the faceoff circle that caromed off the left post and in. Gaborik doubled the advantage during a power play with 2:10 left in the first period, knocking his own rebound past Hiller from the doorstep.

McBain cashed in on another man advantage at 4:32 of the second, pinching from the right point and converting a cross-slot pass from captain Dustin Brown for a 3-0 lead. Gaudreau took over from there, cashing in on a power-play chance with 1:58 left in the session before tallying twice in a 73-second span late in the third to complete his first career hat trick and force overtime.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Gaudreau beat Quick from the right circle after Wideman's one-timer from the blue line was blocked for his first goal, walked out from behind the net and slid the puck under the netminder from the doorstep with 2:12 remaining in the third period and completed the hat trick when his backhanded pass attempt across the slot deflected off Kings D Drew Doughty's skate and in with 59 seconds to play. ... Los Angeles C Anze Kopitar notched an assist, giving him nine points (one goal) over his last three contests, while Gaborik's tally gave him seven goals and two assists during his five-game point streak. ... The Kings converted both of their power-play opportunities to improve to 7-for-13 over the first three games of their homestand.
