Maple Leafs 5, Canucks 2: Peter Holland and Joffrey Lupul each scored a goal and set up another as host Toronto cooled off Vancouver.
David Clarkson also notched a goal and an assist while Richard Panik and defenseman Jake Gardiner each tallied as the Maple Leafs improved to 5-1-1 in their last seven contests. Jonathan Bernier made a season-high 44 saves while making his eighth consecutive start.
Daniel Sedin and blue-liner Chris Tanev supplied the goals for Vancouver, which lost for the second time in seven games after entering the contest with a league-high 11 road wins. Ryan Miller was pulled after yielding four goals on 14 shots and Eddie Lack stopped all 13 shots he faced.
With Toronto already ahead 2-0 on goals 45 seconds apart late in the first, Holland pounced on a rebound and ripped a shot from the left faceoff circle past Miller at 4:16 of the second before setting up Lupul for a one-timer from the left hash marks 1:23 later that ended Miller's night. Sedin finally got Vancouver on the board, knocking home his own rebound with 4:39 left in the period.
The Canucks drew within 4-2 with 11:15 to play in the third, when Tanev deflected a shot by Linden Vey for his first goal of the season, but Clarkson squelched the comeback with an empty-netter. Vancouver defenseman Yannick Weber swept the rebound of Gardiner's shot into his own net at 15:47 of the first and Panik doubled the lead with a slick move in the slot, moving from his forehand to his backhand to easily beat Miller.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Holland's sixth goal matched his career high set in 43 games with Toronto and Anaheim last season. ... Sedin collected his 22nd point in 22 games against the Maple Leafs. ...
