Senators 3, Predators 2: Defenseman Jared Cowen’s first goal since March provided the difference as host Ottawa hung on to edge Nashville.

Bobby Ryan and Alex Chiasson also scored for the Senators, who improved to 5-1-3 at home. Robin Lehner made 33 saves for his first win in November.

Olli Jokinen scored his first goal with the Predators and captain Shea Weber also tallied for the Predators. Carter Hutton stopped 16 shots in his first appearance since Nov. 4.

Ottawa scored all of its goals 8:07 apart in the second period. Ryan fired a snap shot from the top of the right faceoff circle on a power play at 6:17, Chiasson tipped defenseman Cody Ceci’s bid past Hutton at 12:18 and Cowen’s wrist shot from the left faceoff dot beat the netminder on the glove side with 5:36 remaining in the period.

Jokinen knocked a rebound into an open net following an opportunity by Derek Roy 1:16 into the third period. Weber opened the scoring with a booming one-timer from the left point during a man advantage 3:17 into the contest.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Former Senators D Anton Volchenkov was credited with a career-high 11 hits for Nashville. … Ryan has points in five of his last six contests. … Weber is tied with Calgary captain Mark Giordano with six goals, two behind Dennis Wideman of the Flames for the league lead in defenseman scoring.
