Islanders 3, Ducks 2 (OT): Captain John Tavares capped his two-goal performance with a power-play tally 2:18 into overtime as visiting New York halted its three-game losing streak.

With Anaheim defenseman Sami Vatanen serving an elbowing penalty, Tavares unleashed a shot from above the slot that beat a screened Jason LaBarbera for his sixth goal. Kyle Okposo recorded a goal and an assist while Jaroslav Halak made 32 saves for the Islanders, who improved to 1-2-0 on their five-game road trip.

Matt Beleskey and Emerson Etem tallied for the Ducks, who were without top scorers Corey Perry and captain Ryan Getzlaf due to flu-like symptoms. LaBarbera turned aside 33 shots in his second straight start due to injuries to Frederik Andersen and John Gibson.

New York opened the scoring 3:38 into the contest as Tavares buried a rebound from the right side of the crease after LaBarbera stopped defenseman Calvin de Haan's shot from along the left-wing boards. Okposo doubled the lead during a power play 10 seconds into the second period, when he grabbed a loose puck near the boards and cut to the top of the left faceoff circle before beating LaBarbera to the short side.

Beleskey halved the deficit 9:05 later by redirecting Ryan Kesler's pass from the right circle past Halak for his sixth goal. Etem forged a tie with 1:09 left in the session with a turnaround shot from the top of the slot as Devante Smith-Pelly set a perfect screen in front.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Anaheim had what would have been the go-ahead goal waved off 1:30 into the third period as video review determined the rebound of Beleskey's shot that caromed off Islanders D Travis Hamonic "did not cross the goal line between the normal position of the goalposts" after the net was knocked off its moorings. ... Andersen, who is battling tightness in his leg, dressed as LaBarbera's backup. ... The Ducks have scored fewer than three goals in five of their last six contests.
