Flames 4, Capitals 3 (OT): Sean Monahan scored at 4:17 of overtime as visiting Calgary extended its winning streak to three games with a comeback victory.

Rookie Josh Jooris received a drop pass and skated around a defender in the right faceoff circle before dishing the puck across the slot to Monahan, who fired it past Braden Holtby (19 saves). Captain Mark Giordano recorded a goal and an assist, Lance Bouma and Markus Granlund also tallied and Jonas Hiller stopped 31 shots for the Flames, who improved to 2-0-0 on their five-game road trip.

Nicklas Backstrom scored a goal and set up another while Marcus Johansson and Joel Ward added tallies for the Capitals, whose winless streak reached five games (0-4-1). Captain Alex Ovechkin notched two assists to raise his career point total to 827, moving him past Peter Bondra - who was in attendance - for the franchise lead.

Bouma gave Calgary the lead 9:09 into the contest by burying a loose puck in front, but Washington answered 69 seconds later as Backstrom deflected Ovechkin's shot from the left point past Hiller. Giordano put the Flames back in front midway through the second, when he shoveled a backhander by Holtby from the left hash marks.

The Capitals again answered quickly thanks to a fortunate carom, as Johansson's shot from above the right faceoff circle sailed wide but bounced off the end boards and hit Hiller's left pad before gliding across the goal line 43 seconds after Giordano's tally. Ward put Washington ahead during a 5-on-3 power play with 5:37 left in the session, converting a nifty cross-crease pass by Backstrom from below the right circle, but Johansson's clearing attempt after Granlund threw the puck in front caromed off Troy Brouwer's skate and past Holtby with 5:10 remaining in the third to tie it.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hiller made a huge right pad save on Capitals RW Tom Wilson just before time expired in the third period to preserve the tie. ... Calgary, which improved to 6-2-0 away from home, has scored 26 of its 40 goals this season on the road. ... Brouwer notched an assist but had his three-game goal-scoring streak snapped.
