Coyotes 6, Capitals 5: Captain Shane Doan recorded a pair of goals and an assist while Sam Gagner added his first tally of the season as Arizona rallied past Washington for its first road victory.

Antoine Vermette collected a goal and two assists, defenseman Michael Stone scored his first of the campaign and Tobias Rieder added a tally in his NHL debut. Mikkel Boedker chipped in with two assists and Devan Dubnyk finished with 32 saves as Arizona held off a late rally to snap a three-game slide.

Captain Alex Ovechkin registered a goal and three assists while Troy Brouwer scored with 27 seconds left to bring the Capitals within 6-5. Tom Wilson recorded a goal and an assist, defenseman John Carlson and Joel Ward also scored, Nicklas Backstrom collected three assists and Justin Peters made 24 saves for Washington, which dropped its fourth straight.

Stone scored on a screen shot 4:04 into the second session and Doan roofed a shot from the bottom of the left faceoff circle during a power play with five seconds left in the period to forge a 3-3 tie. Gagner took a short pass from Boedker and scored from close range 3:05 into the third and Doan added another from the slot off a turnover by Ovechkin 88 seconds later for a 5-3 lead.

Vermette flipped in a rebound during a man advantage 7:14 into the contest, but Wilson deflected Ovechkin’s shot past Dubnyk 49 seconds later. Carlson moved up from the right point to knock home Backstrom’s nifty feed at 9:49 and Ovechkin’s blast from the left circle during a power play with 3:51 left in the opening period gave Washington a 3-1 cushion.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ovechkin’s four points gave him 825 in his career, tying Peter Bondra for the franchise lead. … Arizona had gone 1-5-1 while scoring a total of 10 goals in its previous seven games. … The teams meet again in Arizona on Nov. 18.
