Wideman opened the scoring with 1:42 remaining in the first period, allowing Russell's cross-ice pass from the left point to glide by him and carom off the right-wing boards before one-timing the puck past Ward. Stajan doubled the lead 32 seconds into the middle session by converting Byron's cross-slot pass from the left faceoff circle during a 2-on-1 rush and Monahan tapped in a feed from Hudler less than four minutes later to make it 3-0.

Monahan struck again 3:23 into the third, tucking the puck around Ward from the doorstep. Bouma put the game out of reach 1:52 later by beating Ward from the left side following a cross-ice pass from Josh Jooris, who notched his first NHL assist.
