Penguins 4, Rangers 2: Brandon Sutter scored a short-handed goal late in the second period to snap a tie as visiting Pittsburgh pushed New York to the brink of elimination by winning Game 4 of their Eastern Conference second-round series.

Jussi Jokinen recorded his sixth goal of the playoffs to pull into a tie with Los Angeles' Marian Gaborik for the league lead while extending his career-best point streak to eight games. Evgeni Malkin collected a goal and an assist, Chris Kunitz also tallied and captain Sidney Crosby set up two scores for the Penguins, who can advance to the conference final for the second consecutive year and fourth time in seven seasons with a home victory in Game 5 on Friday.

Carl Hagelin tallied exactly 5 1/2 minutes into the second period for New York's first goal since Derick Brassard's overtime winner in Game 1. Mats Zuccarello also scored for the Rangers, who went 0-for-2 on the power play and have failed on their last 36 opportunities.

New York was victimized on its second power play as a neutral-zone turnover resulted in Pittsburgh defenseman Kris Letang chipping the puck ahead to Brian Gibbons for a breakaway chance. The rookie lost control of the puck, but Sutter alertly followed the play and beat a prone Henrik Lundqvist (23 saves) with 1:33 remaining in the second period to give the Penguins a 2-1 edge. Jokinen padded the lead 7:02 into the third as his sharp-angle shot from the left faceoff circle caromed off the right skate of New York blue-liner Marc Staal and into the net for his third goal in as many games.

Zuccarello's sharp-angle backhand shot from along the end line handcuffed Marc-Andre Fleury (13 saves) with 6:53 left in the third to trim the Penguins' lead to 3-2. The Rangers' momentum was short-lived, however, as Malkin breezed around the net before feeding Kunitz for an easy tally just 57 seconds later.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Hagelin ended his team's scoring drought at 145 minutes, 30 seconds and forged a 1-1 tie when he cruised into the offensive zone before wristing a shot from the left circle over the glove of Fleury. ... Lundqvist made his 77th career postseason appearance, moving past Mike Richter for the franchise lead in games played among goaltenders. ... Pittsburgh D Brooks Orpik returned from a five-game absence due to a lower-body injury but did not play in the second or third periods. New York LW Chris Kreider appeared in his first contest since missing 19 games with a hand injury. ... New York Giants QB Eli Manning, Mets RHP Matt Harvey and actress Margot Robbie were in attendance at Madison Square Garden.
