Sharks 4, Kings 3 (OT): Patrick Marleau scored at 6:20 of overtime as visiting San Jose took a commanding 3-0 lead in its Western Conference first-round series.

A bouncing puck made its way to Marleau, whose backhander from the left faceoff circle deflected off Kings defenseman Slava Voynov's stick and past Jonathan Quick for the winning goal. Brent Burns, Matt Nieto and fellow rookie Tomas Hertl also tallied, Marleau added an assist and Antti Niemi made 28 saves for the Sharks, who became the first road team to notch a victory in the last 10 playoff games between the Pacific Division rivals.

Jarret Stoll, Marian Gaborik and Jeff Carter scored for Los Angeles, which looks to stave off elimination when it hosts Game 4 on Thursday. Defenseman Drew Doughty notched a pair of assists and Quick turned aside 36 shots.

San Jose took an early lead as Burns' one-timer from the top of the left circle during a power play knuckled its way toward the net before Trevor Lewis inadvertently deflected it in at 3:16 of the first period. Los Angeles answered on the man advantage at 4:48 of the second, when Stoll converted a cross-slot pass from Tyler Toffoli for his first tally of the series.

Gaborik put the Kings ahead just over three minutes later with a superb individual effort as he carried the puck down the left wing during a 3-on-2 and found a lane to the net before backhanding the puck inside the right post. Nieto tied it on a deflection 78 seconds later and Hertl forged a 3-3 deadlock by jabbing in his own rebound at 9:17 of the third after Carter tipped Anze Kopitar's shot past Niemi during a power play 51 seconds into the session.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The Kings avoided disaster late in the third, successfully killing Stoll's interference penalty to close out the period. ... Marleau was named one of the three finalists for the Lady Byng Trophy on Tuesday. The veteran, who finished third in the balloting for the award in 2006, collected only 18 penalty minutes in 82 games this season. ... Los Angeles had its eight-game home winning streak against San Jose come to an end.
