Sharks 5, Oilers 2: Joe Pavelski halted his seven-game goal-scoring drought with his third career hat trick as visiting San Jose cruised past Edmonton.

Patrick Marleau recorded a goal and an assist while Martin Havlat also scored for the Sharks, who increased their lead over Anaheim in the Pacific Division to four points and remained two behind St. Louis in the race for the Presidents' Trophy. Brent Burns and captain Joe Thornton each notched two assists, Pavelski added one and Antti Niemi made 28 saves as San Jose improved to 9-1-3 in its last 13 contests.

Taylor Hall scored a goal and set up another, David Perron also tallied and Ben Scrivens turned aside 29 shots as the Oilers suffered their third straight loss.

Edmonton opened the scoring 4:11 into the game as Perron beat Niemi from the bottom of the left faceoff circle, but Pavelski and Marleau netted power-play goals 3:29 apart in the second period to put the Sharks ahead for good. Havlat made it 3-1 with 31 seconds remaining in the session, wristing the puck inside the left post from the top of the left faceoff circle.

Pavelski beat Scrivens from alone on the left side of the crease during a man advantage 1:17 into the third and completed his third three-goal effort of the season with a one-timer from the high slot with exactly seven minutes left. Hall tallied at 14:56 as the Oilers fell to 1-3-0 on their six-game homestand.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Edmonton has scored one goal in each game during its skid. ... Pavelski's hat trick gave him 37 goals, tying him with Anaheim's Corey Perry for second in the league behind Washington's Alex Ovechkin (48). ... San Jose C Logan Couture missed the contest with a lower-body injury.
