Wild 6, Islanders 0: Matt Moulson scored twice in his first game against the team with which he started the season and Ilya Bryzgalov made 36 saves for his 32nd shutout as visiting Minnesota routed New York.
Defenseman Clayton Stoner scored his first goal since April 1, 2012 for the Wild, who won for the second time in seven games (2-2-3). Justin Fontaine had a goal and an assist while defenseman Jared Spurgeon and Mikael Granlund also scored.
Islanders rookie Anders Lee was all over Bryzgalov, firing six shots in the first 20 minutes and taking a goaltender interference penalty 1:17 into the contest. Rookie netminder Anders Nilsson stopped 16 shots for New York in his fifth start this month.
Moulson went to the net and knocked in a rebound off Fontaine's shot 12:23 into the first period and deposited another rebound on a power play with 3:26 remaining in the third for his 20th of the season. Stoner was called for boarding at 2:48 of the third period, but he received a breakaway pass from Wild captain Mikko Koivu out of the penalty box and scored on a forehand deke at 4:56.
Spurgeon fired a one-timer from the top of the right faceoff circle at 15:57 of the first and Granlund one-timed a pass in the slot with 3:58 remaining in the second to make it 3-0. Fontaine blasted a shot off the post and in 2:10 after Stoner’s tally in the third, but the puck bounced out of the net so fast the goal was not confirmed until a video review during the next stoppage in play.
GAME NOTEBOOK: Islanders D Brian Strait left the game after he broke his left hand blocking a shot in the second period. … Koivu finished with two assists. … The Islanders fell to 10-18-8 at home. … Bryzgalov is 5-1-2 against the Islanders in his career. … The Wild snapped a four-game losing streak against New York.
