Flames 7, Ducks 2: Mikael Backlund collected two goals and an assist as host Calgary scored four times in the first period and sent Anaheim spiraling to its fourth straight defeat (0-2-2).

T.J. Galiardi joined Backlund with a short-handed goal and captain Mark Giordano, Michael Cammalleri and defenseman Ladislav Smid also tallied for Calgary, which set a season high in goals. Corban Knight netted his first career NHL goal and rookie Joni Ortio finished with 20 saves as the Flames posted their eighth win in 10 home games.

Jonas Hiller yielded three goals on five shots before giving way to Frederik Andersen (16 saves) midway through the first period. Andrew Cogliano scored his career-high 20th goal and Nick Bonino also tallied for the Ducks, who fell to 1-3-1 in their last five trips to Calgary and suffered just their second regulation loss against Pacific Division representatives (15-2-2) this season.

The Flames wasted little time getting the jump on Anaheim as Giordano unleashed a blast from above the left circle to open the scoring 3:39 into the first period. Galiardi deposited Paul Byron's saucer pass inside the left post for a short-handed goal 3 1/2 minutes later.

Calgary doubled that advantage in short order as Cammalleri cleaned up a rebound to chase Hiller at 11:28 of the session. Backlund greeted Andersen rudely as his soft shot from the right circle found its way home over two minutes later.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Smid netted his first goal as a member of the Flames. He was traded from rival Edmonton on Nov. 8. ... Calgary LW Curtis Glencross made his return to the ice after being sidelined with a high-ankle sprain since Dec. 21. He registered four hits in 12:58 of ice time. ... Anaheim C Mathieu Perreault finished with a minus-3 in his return from a four-game absence due to an upper-body injury.
