Devils 2, Flyers 1: Jaromir Jagr's 702nd career goal snapped a tie in the third period and lifted visiting New Jersey over Philadelphia.

Jagr also assisted on Travis Zajac's first-period goal as the Devils pulled within two points of the Flyers and Columbus for third place in the Metropolitan Division. Martin Brodeur turned aside 30 shots to improve to 4-0-0 since the Olympic break and Tuomo Ruutu collected two assists for New Jersey.

Defenseman Nicklas Grossmann scored the lone goal and Steve Mason made 24 saves for Philadelphia, which lost for only the third time in 10 games (7-2-1). Scott Hartnell nearly forged a tie with 41 seconds remaining in the third period, but officials deemed he pushed Brodeur into the net on the potential goal.

Jagr broke the deadlock at 7:42 of the third period with his team-high 21st goal, knocking in a backhander from the right post against his former team. The tally pulled Jagr within six of Mike Gartner for sixth place on the career scoring list.

Zajac put the Devils on top just before the eight-minute mark of the opening period, taking a feed from Jagr in front and patiently waiting for Mason to commit before lifting a forehand over him. Grossmann tied it 47 seconds into the middle session with his first goal of the season on a shot from behind the left circle past a screened Brodeur.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Jagr registered his 1,043rd assist on Zajac's goal, moving him within six of tying the legendary Gordie Howe for eighth place on the all-time list. ... Grossmann halted a 75-game goalless drought dating to Feb. 20, 2013, and matched his career high of 12 points set with Dallas in 2008-09. ... Devils C Adam Henrique had his six-game goal-scoring streak coming to an end. He tallied nine times during the run. ... Flyers RW Jakub Voracek, who set up Grossmann's tally, has three goals and five assists during a four-game point streak.
